Worst. Cover. Ever.

I like this movie, but that song playing during the scene with the alien stripper chick absolutely RUINED Sympathy For the Devil. They even got some of the lyrics wrong!

without a doubt

I just read this and the song came on 10 seconds later...lol...friggin' terrible! I agree 100%

reply

yeah.. but's it's Jane's Addiction!! so who cares if it sucked...

reply

Ok, that statement made not sense whatsoever.

It is kinda like, "Who cares if there is cyanide in it, it's CAKE! Eat up!"

reply

I believe you nailed it right there. My brain has healed a bit since I saw this, but I still remember that for some reason they sang "and the nation screamed in pain" instead of "Anastasia screamed in vain". Not that it's THAT big of a deal, but to do a cover so bad you screw up the LYRICS...ugh.

No, worse. MUCH worse.

reply

Have you ever considered that the lyric change had a meaning given the themes of the movie?

Just a thought. It's been a loooong night.

reply

Maybe, but I doubt it. Either way the song still sucked. At least Guns N Roses didn't screw up the lyrics.

reply

As much dope as Perry Farrel used to do, back in the day, I'm surprised he wasn't singing the lyrics of "Jumpin' Jack Flash".

"Guns don't kill people, I kill people."

Covering a song doesn't mean an artist can't add or change things a little to suit or represent themselves... the whole point of most covers are nods and homages to influences and favored songs. Those that don't like this song are not janes addiction fans pure and simple. As soon as I heard the song I cared nothing for the scene and was purely surprised and happy to hear perry farrell pop up somewhere I didn't expect. I just don't get the venom and accusation that the song ruined the scene... it actually made it for me. I don't jump on here every time good charlotte or nelly or whatever horrible music pops up in a good movie. And just because I don't care for something doesn't mean it sucks... just not my flavor. It must be somebodys though because it got put in the movie and the band got paid. Maybe it should have been motley crues girls girls girls?

I have to cordially disagree at this point. I do happen to like Jane's Addiction, however, this is a butchering of a song that, in my humble opinion, is the greatest rock song of all time. It contains within it, a multitude of historical references that show, point by point, an outside influence, steering moments of tremendous importance. Now, by the mere fact that Jane's Addiction begins changing lyrics here and there to better suit what THEY think the song should sound like, it detracts from the original meaning of the song and it's intended message. A for instance would be changing, "I don't wanna pay for it" to "I don't wanna play for it" (From "Been Caught Stealing" if you're wondering).
A minor change, but one that changes the flavor of the song. I find it unlikely that JA fans would tolerate it with much enthusiasm. All in all, a decent flick, but listening to that song, of all songs, get gutted is horrid. Just some random thoughts, and worth what you paid for them.

............What do yo expect to hear in alien strio club. The band was better then the one in the bar in Mos Eisley. The wouldn't let robots in either. LOL
