Other movies that correctly predicted...

What other scifi dystopian movies predicted that the government (U.S. or otherwise) would go to hell, and the economy would be in the crapper, in this decade?

Two others I can think of: The Running Man (a lot of its predictions about technology ended up being true) and Blade Runner, sort of.

Any others come to mind?

Brazil (1985).

The idea that Akira was 'correct' is seriously, seriously pushing it.

They're about as accurate as the other examples, though.

reply

You get the point. General predictions about this decade that ended up being correct.

Tokyo did get the Olympics in 2020. They got that right

Basically anything cyberpunk haha

Well in this decade the economies of both Europe and the BRIC countries are thriving and growing, unless of course you watch CNN or Fox which tries to convince the American people that it has little debt and the rest of the world is a socialist dystopia paddling up faeces creek with negative paddles.

Opinions are just onions with pi in them.

Network (1976)

I went to Japan this year, and with the earthquake and financial stagnation, Japan does kinda look and feel like a dystopian SciFi movie. Not only that but it looks like an 80's dystopian SciFi, since that's when their economic bubble burst. You see people walking around with 80's style fashion, billboards and signs are all faded and out-dated, plus every now and then the power will fail somewhere, due to a power-saving plan by the government due to the earthquake. They're also advertising for the 2020 olympics. Yep, it really does look like you're in Akira, over there. Plus all the people walking around with allergy masks makes you feel like there was some form of epidemic.

A country that has cities that are clean, safe and where everything works - and where during the earthquake there was no looting - "dystopian"?

reply

Any society where the majority of people are secretly and/or openly miserable is dystopian, and from what I've seen that's about anywhere.
