Wow, not a single mention of "On Deadly Ground". One of my favorites.

"What does it take? What does it take to change the essence of a man?

The man's a legend. Mine's gotta be:

1)Out for Justice
2)Marked for Death
3)Above the Law
4)A Dangerous Man
5)Exit Wounds
6)Glimmer Man
7)The Keeper
8)On Deadly Ground
9)Into the Sun
10)Under Siege 2
11)under Siege
12)Fire Down Below

There are some other class ones, and some awful ones.

What disappoints me is why he appears in toss like Kill Switch, Black Dawn and Against the Dark - for a man so fiercely proud of his fighting skills and reputation, its awful seeing fight scenes that blantantly aren't him. He can do the moves better than most people in the world, so why use wanky stunt doubles? What's even worse than that is when they dont even look like Seagal - these doubles often have different hair and even different colour suit jackets, wot the crunk?!
Ah well, the last 3 films (Driven to Kill, The Keeper and Dangerous Man) have been awesome with him in most if not all the fight scenes, so hopefully it's the way forward now, and his appearance in Machete will bring back the man the myth!! ;-)

Love Steven Seagal films; there is just something utterly watchable about 95% of his films (barring Against the Dark- its was quite possibly one of the worst films ever). I'll rank my tops here:

1) Out For Justice
2) Above the Law
3) Hard to Kill
4) Executive Decision (I know he wasn't the star, but his death scene alone is priceless! His little doll body flying in the air; classic)
5) Under Seige
6) Marked For Death
7) Fire Down Below
8) Under Seige 2
9) On Deadly Ground
10) The Glimmer Man

11) Exit Wounds (a couple of fantastic fight scenes- love when the bus hits the dummy cop on the bridge, but other than that its unwatchable)

As for his direct to video films, they all fall into the 'so bad its good' category, although the following were better than normal, and had a little bit more time been spent on casting, fixing the script, production values, etc. they could have been released in theaters.

1) The Keeper
2) Into the Sun
3) Urban Justice
4) Pistol Whipped (they reaaally could have made something great with this one)
5) Belly of the Beast

But the man truly is a legend; you gotta love even the worst of his films.

I have seen all of earlier Seagals but I haven't watched most of his recent films. Frankly after 'The Patriot' I lost the little faith I still had on Seagal. Let's see if 'Machete' can re-launch his career but I doubt it, as far as I know he's gonna have only a few scenes.

IMO Seagal only starred in 2 good action films:
1. Above the Law
2. Under Siege
a Few "decent" or "average" flicks:
3. Out for Justice
4. Fire Down Below
5. Under Siege 2

and the rest are just stinkers.

Above the Law/Nico gets a 6.5, for accurate portrayal of actual Japanese martial arts.

Then there is a void... nothing at all... until the rest follows somewhere beneath 3.5. I cannot bother to even sort them.

It's about time someone makes a REALLY good Japanese martial arts movie. Means: actual JAPANESE Martial Arts... good acting... good story...
Ah well... probably that's a utopia!
