loved the scene

I'm sure i'm not the only one who loved the scene where they are passing the soldier convoy, and Ryder's character is giving the peace sign. The soldiers either flip her off or return the peace sign. I think it truly showed the unpopularity and termoil that the country was experiencing during the Vietnam War

~ That is one of my favorite scenes of the movie too. I loved it so much. It was all beautifully done. In my opinion 1969 is one of the best coming of age movie I've seen. Totally of the top best of 80's.

Bad memory for me as I right away concluded that those guys in the convoy were all National Guard and were dodging Vietnam by being in the guard. Very few guard units were activated for VN. We, those of us on active duty, abhorred guardsmen unless they had already been to VN and then joined the guard when they returned home. Most didn't. We referred to them as Weekend Warriors. The country was really torn apart. It would last 6 more years after 69. Many would still die.
