I Love DM

As the title implies, I am an avid fan of Mr.Gahan and co's work. The only downside to this film, and this may render me liable to some criticism, is the totally annoying "persons" in the film, purporting to be fans, especially that malcontent who dyed his hair frequently and couldn't dance to save his own life. The music by DM speaks for itself and the interaction between the band and roadcrew produced some occasionally humourous moments. DA Pennebaker made a classic, but FAR too much emphasis was placed on the persons who won the tickets to see the 101 tour. I find the competition winners so banal, it blights my enjoyment of 101.

Yo, and I find you banal for using a word like "blight" just for the sake of using florid language. Come on man, if you hated the fan aspect of the movie, just say, "I hated the fan aspect of the movie." Plain and simple. That being said, I, myself, found nothing wrong with this aspect of the movie. So what, they didn't find the biggest hardcore fans. Big deal. This movie wasn't about that. If anything, it shows how the band's appeal was growing almost into the mainstream realm of things. And why do you refer to Chris Hardwick as a "malcontent"...? There's not one part of this movie that justifies you calling him that. I just don't get why people bug out about that aspect of the movie. Kids were kids. End of story.

I will use the word blight again, as I find it descriptive. Not just to be, as you put it so eloquently "florid" And, in your own idiom about Kids being kids, I have another equally relevant saying that befits kids. They should be seen and not heard. Particulary as the film also charts DM's descent into drug fuelled chaos in trying to "break" America, most bands' graveyard.
Oh, and he is a malcontent because;

(a) He cannot dance and feels that the world will shrivel away unless we're "treated" to his annoying nails down a blackboard voice.A fan movie should be about "FANS" not just "right place, right time" people whose only saving grace was being the first to dial into a competition and win the tickets.

What "drug fuelled chaos" in the film are you referring to...?

And you need to check your definition of malcontent. I believe the word you should be using is "annoying". Annoying is more subjective and lends itself more to opinion than malcontent, which implies he was some sort of michievous evil-doer, which he wasn't. You can't argue that.

Something tells me you're just jealous that it wasn't you. Admit it.

reply

Yes I can. The guy was VERY annoying and jealousy does not enter into it at all.

If the rest of footage still exists, maybe the director could re-edit with greater emphasis on the band?

I would have loved to have seen more of the band backstage
