The US version is superior

Why is the US version better? because evreyone on the US cast delivers. the performers are undeniably of better quality.
Ryan, Colin, Wayne, Greg + Drew Carey is about as good as it gets. I do like clive anderson, but drew carey fits the new mix so much better. clive owen would look out of place.

The best thing the US version has going for it.. is the lack of Josie lawrence, Michael McShane and the incomparably terrible Stephen Frost.

I will never understand how stephen frost got cast into this on such a regular basis. he is aweful, watching him is like a really boring car accident.
would anyone care to disagree on that? arguments could be made for mcshane and lawrence though.

so thats my opinion, US is better so long as you can get over the drew carey hate. everyone in the US looks comfortable, and it makes for more consistent laughs and entertainment.

*damn you stephen frost! get off my screen!*

Generally I prefer the brittish comedy to american. it tends to be better contrsucted laughs.
but this style of comedians belongs to americans. i dont know why, but brits just arent suited to it and americans are. its the way it is.

I know I shouldn't feed the troll but, basically, you're talking nonsense.

I'm not surprised. Clive Owen on Whose Line Is It Anyway?!

I find it hard to respect anyone's opinion who dismisses Josie Lawrence, Mike McShane, AND Steve Frost. All three of them were awesome. I've always thought Frost's humour would've mended well in the US version, since he's so physical. Is it that you just don't understand what he's even saying, since his accent is so thick? I could argue some of your other points as well, if you'd like.

And before I forget...

Damn you, Wayne Brady! Get off my screen!

the british version is superior, i felt the american show had to many music games, almost like it was trying to be a music and entertainment show to please everyone but i never liked the music games.

i also think the american show was confusing, some of the edits were terrible, and some of the shows say that the winner gets to play a game with drew and then some shows say the winner gets to sit down behind the desk and yet i dont remember ryan ever winning and sitting behind the desk.

and i didnt like the way the games were always played in the same order every show with everyone given the same roles in each game which is almost like an insult to the american audiance aint it? almost like the fear of change puts people off watching.

all in all i believe drew carey had abit to much control on the show sadly.

my only problems with the british show are how bad it was for the first 3 or 4 series, and how it ended to soon in 98

I like both versions. I'm not sure if I can say I like one over the other. I think the US version is a lot more physical. The cast often runs into the audience and grabs audience members making them part of the scene. I don't remember this happening on the UK version. But I really love both.

As far as Ryan winning and sitting behind the desk... this happened in episode 7x19. They did a Ryan-less hoedown with Chip taking over Ryan's spot (and doing awesome on the affair hoedown). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6ZbL6jpqlA&feature=related

Something I would have loved to see is Rory Bremner being invited onto the US version and then having them do Questionable Impressions. I loved Rory's appearances (I know there a lot of Rory-haters out there, but I am a big fan of his). I think it would have been great since the US cast tends to be horrible at impressions and Rory is awesome. I especially would have loved to see him go up again Colin (who we all know is a terrible impressionist) or Ryan's Carol Channing (which is just hilarious).

I swear, by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you.

The Brits suffer from being nice people in real life, which affects their on-stage persona- they goof out too much & giggle. Ryan Stiles is a genius, but IMHO is a snide , backstabbing *beep* off-camera

Danny, you say Ryan Stiles is a genius, but all the evidence I've seen points to him being a completely unlettered dunce.

I guess he may have his moments on the US show (which I could rarely get past 10 minutes of) but his work on the UK original was among the weakest in that series' history.

Me too. Rory would've fitted in fine as a 4th seat guest on the US WL.

And so would've other UK Whose LIne performers that played alongside Ryan and Colin. I know they let Josie appear on 2 US shows, but they didn't give her much of a chance to shine in the new format. (After all, Ryan and Colin were less than brilliant on their early Uk appearances too, and took several series before they found their groove )

On the US Whose Line, I'd have loved to have seen guest appearances by Steve Frost, Rory Bremner, Paul Merton, Caroline Quentin, Eddie Izzard, Stephen Fry, Steve Steen, Jim Sweeney, Niall etc...

(plus more Josie ,and maybe a cameo by Tony Slattery before he got sick would've been wonderful too )

If that's true (which there's no evidence for), I think it says more about the US than it does about the UK show.

unfortunately I think you're right however the three regular performers on the american whose line were excellent and I saw no reason to replace them.

As with most US versions of British shows the US version is not as consistently good as the UK version, partly on the dependence of musical skits.

However, I must admit the funniest single episode goes to the US. And that was the episode with Richard Simmons. My eyes were overflowing I was laughing so hard.

But as a collective the UK original had it over the US copy.

reply

No, just no. I'm 'murican and I think the only decent version is the UK one. Sure, the American one doesn't have f'n Josie Lawrence, but everything else is better

Clive Anderson is much funnier, and the whole, the points don't matter shtick drew carrey and alisha tyler did was terrible, the joke is the points don't matter, it isn't a joke if you say the premise of the joke.

The goofy british people shouting *beep* out is much superior, and Clive's interactions with them are often the funniest part, plus the audience and cast is just dressed so awful, it was the 80s (and i imagine the 90s in the UK were still the 80s), that alone is worth it.

After about the 3rd time you heard Wayne Brady sing you were sick of it, and that's what the Drew Carrey episodes are - just finding ways for Wayne Brady to sing.

Tony Slattery and Mike McShane are worth battling through Josie Lawerence the little shrimp lady and the unfunny australian.
