Why were none of the actors asked to guest star on Smallville?

I've always wondered why neither John Haymes Newton, Stacy Haiduk, and Gerard Christopher were asked to make a guest appearance on Smallville, in particular Gerard, seeing as how the producers of the other show got other Superman alumni actors to appear such as Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, etc. It would have been interesting to see Gerard Christopher and Tom Welling do a scene together.

For some odd reason this show always gets overlooked and looked down upon in the cinematic mythos of Superman/Superboy. Alot of it has to do with the troble of it being owned by Viacom and the lien that ensued, and for the longest time not considered "official" to the mythos.

I would say a lot of it is due to the various legal 'FusterClucks' in regards to both the rights to 'superboy' and the ownership of this series... this leads to the show kind of being Disavowed... however I seem to recall a Lot of that mess as solved by the later seasons

-- you could also make a case that the show is lost to history due to the state of Syndication in the late 1980s... it was something of a 'wild west' so a lot of the shows get forgotten or are only half-remembered

-- perhaps the actors took exception to the show being shelved in favor of the 100% Warner Approved Lois and Clark

-- beyond those factors, as good as the cast was, none of them really did much of note between the end of Superboy and Today (Haiduk had Kindred which Could have been something for Fox, and Newton had the Syndicated Untouchables) so they'd only be recognizable to those of us who remembered Superboy; while Hatcher went on to Desperate Housewives and Cain churned some TV Movies to stay in the public consciousness and note Cain was there with Bells on to play 'we can't legally call him Vandal Savage' by was it 5 or 6... while Hatcher held out until 9 or 10 to literally phone it in as Lois' Mom

But really Smallville's guests were mostly from the Reeve Films... with Cain and Hatcher from L&C...

The Reeve Films in turn got Coates and Alyn from the serials as Lois' parents on the Train

L&C had Coates as Lois' Mom in season 1 and Jimmy from 1952 as an artificially aged Jimmy in a later episode

Superman Returns got Old Jimmy as the Bartender and Noel Neill as Lex's aged Bride

so not Every precursor series gets a nod in the future shows... none of the post 2001 Projects recognized the Voice Talents of Daly and Delaney from the DCAU
