Sarah Chalke's Becky seemed so dumb and ditsy compared to Lecy's Becky

Just take the episode where Roseanne and Dan come to visit Sarah Chalke's Becky at the trailer park, the episode Sharon Stone is in, Sarah's Becky is excited and thrilled to be living in a run down white trash trailer park.

Dan obviously making up some dumb excuses to give them money by saying that hubcap is an antique and Sarah's Becky is like "Alright! thats awesome who would have thought right honey?" even Mark was wise to it but she wasn't it, she was even thrilled and proud to be picking up that stick with rusty nail to fend off the mean dog when going to the outhouse.

Then you have the episode not long after where Lecy returns as Becky and shes miserable and ashamed to be in that trailer park and wants to better herself by going to college. I dunno Lecy's Becky just seemed smarter and had a better head on her shoulders than Sarah Chalke's Becky.

The show ran out of ideas given the constraints of the characters and the setting around 1992-93. So they retooled to extend the series. Kind of like the Simpson's where it was first established that Homer and Marge's high school years were the early 1970's and then retro'd to the 1990's. If Roseanne's ego had not gotten in the way maybe Becky could have evolved into going to community college and perhaps further than the Mark arc.
