Darlene and David relationship sexual or non sexual

Was it better before or after it became sexual? Becky and Marks' too?

reply

Worse, because they didn't change the writing to reflect the intimacy two people who love each other and are having sex share. Worse, because they had no chemistry. Becky and Mark's got better. It made more sense as to why Dan and Roseanne hated Mark.

Yep Darlene was still a bitch and David was her rug to stomp over. It didn't feel like a real relationship

Darlene and David: worse. Before they had sex, they seemed like a totally normal high school couple. David had a spine and seemed to be able to keep up with Darlene's snarkiness, and Darlene's snarkiness seemed more playful than genuinely hurtful. Then they had sex and she was just mean to him pretty much all the time, until Jimmy broke up with her for being so cold-hearted, and David became this really awful punching bag (sidebar: isn't it terrible that Roseanne allowed David to live with them because of his abusive mother, and Roseanne having an abusive father especially felt bad for him, but then everybody in the house is just constantly ragging on him, especially DJ who's even physically violent with him, and neither Roseanne nor anybody else says "hey maybe let's not be emotionally and physically abusive to the kid who spent his whole live living with an abusive mother"?)

Becky and Mark's relationship wasn't better until after they got married and Becky came back Sarah Chalke. Even after they transitioned from pre-sex to sex-havers, the relationship was still not great, and still seemed like something Becky was doing just as a kind of rebellion. After they got married they seemed more like a real couple. Although Mark did actually end up showing some redeeming qualities after they started having sex, which was good.

Yes! This always bothered me, too. Especially since Roseanne and Darlene had actually witnessed the way David's mom treated him. They didn't hear it secondhand, they were actually in the room.

^ Sloppy TV writing. They went for the lowest common denominator, by dumping on David in the later seasons.
