DJ became a jerk when he got older

I noticed when DJ was a little kid he was more likeable, but once he reached puberty, he became a jerk to everybody and was more meaner too, especially to David.

i agree with you. he was a spoiled brat . they never punished him. they never said anything if Dan punished him for beating up David.

or after he crashed their car. Roseanne needed to whoop his ass and not feel guilty.

or when he was peeping on his sisters. Dan told Becky it is her fault for not locking the door. and just kept telling DJ to stop it which he didn't. they just thought it was "boys being boys" crap

or when he was peeping on his sisters.

For some reason I read this as "or when he was peeing on his sisters". I had to stop and think what episode that was! lol

reply

It was one of the "lost" episodes... 

reply

There was another lost episode where Dan and Roseanne punish DJ by locking him in the bathroom after they both took big dumps in the bathroom and leave a disgusting, nasty lingering stink in there. Their evil laugh after doing it was great acting on their part.

R Kelly was as guest star

reply

Same.

reply

I always see this, but I didn't think he was a constant jerk. He had a few jerk moments, but I don't think it was his character.

Yeah and DJ looked like a young version of Mr. Spock, ahaha!!

reply

There were a couple episodes in particular where DJ really got on my nerves. He became very mouthy when he hit puberty. I thought he was better in seasons eight and nine, however.

reply

Even allowing that the youngest in a group of siblings typically gets away with murder, DJ toward the end was resembling a budding sociopath. But he's only one problem as the series wound closer to the dreadful final season.

I'm pretty sure that now he'd be described as "on the spectrum.

reply

I couldn't stand DJ after a while. The way he treated David was inexcusable.

When he started skipping school & sassing his parents left and right....but the topper was when he stole & wrecked his parents car.
The way he snapped at them to shut up (!!!) and leave him alone, I couldn't believe it!
I cheered when Roseanne finally cracked him one, but knew she'd cave and apologize.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

reply

I think DJ's poor treatment of David was all Darlene's fault.

reply

How is it Darlene's fault??

reply

DJ observed Darlene treat David horribly and David never fighting back. Darlene treated DJ horribly, so he took his aggression out on the weak David, who was made to look weak by Darlene.

reply

That's exactly it. He has not witnessed one person being respectful towards David, so it was built-in.

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

Agreed, fiat.

reply

Also agree Fiat and whitespirit. DJ acted out long before Darlene and David had a relationship. Granted Darlene wasn't the best role model in terms of how to treat a person in a relationship, but if the measure of a person rests solely on what they observe in a single household, without the ability to think for his/herself, society would have been doomed long ago. Just to add, yes, most certainly DJ acted like a real jerk as he got older. You can't blame a sole person on this; other things always come into play.

He was a little a-hole in the season 7 episode Punch and Jimmy. And of course when he got caught joyriding and crashed the car. If I was Roseanne I would not have apologized for spanking him. David really needed to stand up for himself. Dan should've let him whoop DJ's ass in the Punch & Jimmy ep. Or Dan should've himself. There was another one in season 6 where DJ kept making fun of David because he acted like a girl. It was the one where Fred wanted to sue Jackie. If I was David, DJ would not dare mess with me. I kind of let my younger cousins walk all over me when I was a kid but that's because I was too afraid to fight back. My aunt encouraged me to spank my one cousin if he was being a jerk and I did once or twice. But then my other cousin made me feel guilty. She was like, 6. My aunt would put hot sauce on my cousin's tongue if he was being a brat. My other aunt still has the paddle that my great grandparents used for spanking back in the 60s.

It's sad how most sociopaths/narcissists grow up the way they do because Mommy & Daddy never want to punish their precious little angels, no matter what they do. Believe me I knew a couple and it was not pretty. I never ever talked back to my elders (especially to my grandpa), and if I got a spanking I deserved it, but I was like, 4. Didn't happen that often.

Lara Croft Himiko! The First Sun Queen! This is Yamatai.

DJ definitely reached peak jerk during Seasons 6 and 7. He finally calmed down considerably in Season 8.

If you are reading this, you have just lost The Game.
