Dory

I wonder why they decided to call her this on the show. In the books she was always referred to as "Dorothy." Also, in the books, she had shorter hair. Then again, they made Beezus look like a boy in the books.

In the books the pictures always looked like 8-year-old Ramona had drawn them herself, so the people on the show had to look better than that!

I always thought it was strange in the book when Dorothy is cutting Ramona's hair. She hardly has any hair at all! Why cut what you don't have? Beezus had nice hair on the tv show at least.

Hmmmm...maybe they drew the pictures that way to make a point...to make us see things even more from Ramona's perspective.
I still wonder why her mother had long hair on the show. Who knows, maybe she had a contract for some other film/show that didn't allow her to cut her hair. Then again, even though it didn't look the way it did in the books, it's not like it looked majorly fancy. Dorothy/Dory was still portrayed as a sensible and hardworking mother in her 30's. I still don't get the Dory thing, though!

I havea feeling that the producers thought "Dorothy" might sound too "old-fashioned" or that the name would conjure up images of Judy Garland in children, seeing as her portrayal of said character is so iconic.

I always thought Dory was short for Dorothy.
