I detest the character of Ariadne Oliver

What a scatterbrained screwball. She adds nothing to the Poirot stories.

Is she the one who's always eating apples? Agreed!

I keep thinking of her as Madame Hooch from the Harry Potter movies. I like her, she is a decent foil for Poirot, but Hastings was better, he was just so comically wrong most of the time. But she interviews people on Poirot's behalf better than Hastings. By the time she enters the show, the show had changed tones, gotten a little darker, more serious, a little more sexual. A comical foil like Hastings wouldn't work in that setting.

In the 80's her and Hugh Frasier were in a Brilliant BBC drama series together, it was about nuclear power and politics but was much better than it sounds.

i don't hate her, but she's very silly and sometimes irritates me.

Interestingly enough, Ariadne seems to have been an author avatar for Agatha Christie. She too is a writer of novels, with a detective hero whom she can't stand anymore, but people want to keep reading about him, so she still has to keep writing about him.
