COLOR

Here's one of my big problems with the remake and movies, Herman's skin color.

In the original series people always asked themselves and one another whether or not Herman's skin was 'greenish.' In other words, he was such a pale green that people thought he was simply ill or spent too much time working in the dark. Then the color versions came out and he was a deep, bright green. HELLO !!! I for one would freak out if some bright green giant came lumbering at me, same with GrandPa.

Okay, I've vented.

its weird... they should make up their minds lol.

In the original series, a visitor once said about Lily, "but she's green", then in the colour version she was either just pale, or blue, depending on the version.

Well, in the origanal move, the monster was green so that in B&W he would look a grayish "color". I guess this was a left over for the TV show as well.

True...

And, maybe if the show was shot in b&w instead of color, it might have fared a little better... the show in color, as even the 1964 pilot had proved, doesn't work. B&W does give it some soul...

The problem with the show's appearance isn't just that it was shot in colour.

It's also that it was shot on video instead of film (like the original was). Video in general has a far more clinical and "live" look to it. (*) While this may suit some shows, it doesn't work here, and combined with the bright lighting it makes it look cheap, lacking in atmosphere and like a regular sitcom.

That said, like it or not, they probably couldn't have got away with a black-and-white show by the late 80s.

(*) By which I mean old school (pre-digital) video. Modern digital video can be shot so that it looks very much like film.

The Munsters belongs in B&W. Period. Any future remakes or movies should all be done in black and white IMO. I'm glad the original was done in black and white. The Munsters Today being in color is one of the things that makes it inferior to the original.

And he rubbed the pot roast all over his chest, excitable boy, they all said
