Anybody else outgrow this?

I liked it in the early 90s when I was about 12 or 13 years old but I don't understand why anybody would watch it as an adult. Most of the jokes they make are things you might observe yourself anyways. Every time it's on I turn it off because it just feels like there are three obnoxious people in the room watching a bad movie along with me.

I still love it because it makes me laugh and the more absurd they get the more it cracks me up. I've been a fan for more than 20 years and the likes of "The Touch of Satan", "Th Final Sacrifice", and even "Manos" still make me laugh. Also a huge fan of Rifftrax.

No, you're pretty much the only one on the board that thinks so. And also probably the only one that equates adults to 12 or 13 year olds because the jokes in the show "are just things one might observe themselves anyways", assuming a adult would be dumb enough to watch it still. I suggest you just go and watch reruns of Game of Thrones for the rest of your life and beat off to the sex scenes in it, because I feel that's the only thing that's going to rock your boat for the rest of your life as far as entertainment on TV goes, and the minds behind MST3K won't ever be able to help you. But if you do decide to give it a try again, maybe try to understand what the theme of the show is trying to convey to you.

Huh?

Mooville, that was a real beat down (no pun intended). Bravo!

You never outgrow great riffs on horrible movies... Crow is a master.

Just watched one today, Zombie something..the director didn't notice the actors prominent 'batch' showing in one scene, laughed at by the gang but not immediately commented on...later the actor was hit by a car, Crow riffs as a crowd approaches the body "I would recognize that batch anywhere!"

There are well over 300 such riffs in every movie, not all are gems but it is easy to miss or forget some so it makes repeated viewing great.

I was at the MST3K live 30th anniversary tour back in 2018... I hadn't laughed that hard at a live event in a long, long time. It was amazing to watch them riff on the movies in a live setting, and having Joel back as part of the performance was so cool.

I don't know why some people think that silly humor has to be "kiddie" or "less adult". Just because I grew up doesn't mean I have to give up silly humor!

And, if all these things are something that everyone might observe themselves, then MST3K wouldn't have had a successful 30 year run! There is some talent to what they do.

reply

Nope.

I kind of have a hard time watching the newer episodes on Netflix, but I can still watch any of the older episodes and still laugh at the same jokes that I've laughing at for 25 years. There may be some references that are dated, for the most part they hold up.

I watched a few around 1990 when I was 30ish. Thought it was stupid from the beginning.

reply

It still makes me laugh, so, no. And Mrbob you should avail Hollywood of your services as a comedy writer, if you could come up with those gags on your own! And how dare you call Crow and Tom Servo and Mike/Joel obnoxious! Also, how does it just get "on" on your TV and make you turn it off? It's only on IFC now at odd hours. Methinks you protest too much.

You're the same dude who critiqued "WWE Summer Slam 92?"

LOL.

reply

It is what it is.

reply

Yes it is. Thanks for the laughs.
