What makes Mystery Science Theater 3000 so enduring?

The problem MST3K had was the same problem that most shows that do well on Sci-Fi and CC have; if they're popular they get played to death. The original programing of these two stations is so bad that they lean on what little they have available to them that people want. I don't know if it's still like this today or not. I know both channels still exist but I haven't watched anything on either one in over a decade.
