You realize this is a self-fulfilling prophecy right? If many people, like you, decide to wait until the whole sets come out, no will buy the first season disks and they'll never put the following seasons out.

You can take my tivo when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

reply

Shame on WHV!

This is the best sitcom ever, and the first season is merely a teaser in comparison with grat episodes that are yet to come... (remember Murphy giving birth...?)

*beep* you, Warner Brothers!

reply

This is so ridiculous. I cant even download it cause no one is seeding it. I got the first dvd and I want moooooorreeeee!!!!!!! bah

reply

No!!! I want the all serie!!!
And the best is coming soon!!!! The baby part isfo funny!!!

reply

That sucks! Thankfully TVland shows them nightly again and I can tape all the episodes the old fashioned way!

reply

I'm taping them, and having a he** of a time! It's so frustrating becuase my VCR is being a total butt head and skipping nights sometimes! O well, it's better than nothing I suppose............

But, get this, there's a rumor that Warner Brother's are trying again and Season 2 is coming out in February of 2007! Pray that this is true!

reply

Oh man, I really wish that the rumour is true. I swear I will buy it right away! I mean, it's a bit different here in Finland, we don't have any channel running this show anymore. It's quite impossible to get any episodes from anywhere. And I absolutely love Murphy Brown.

reply

I can't imagine that the remaining seasons will never make it to DVD- I heard that the reason there's been no season 2 is because there are all kinds of royalty issues for musical clips used on the show. This is the same reason why "Ally McBeal" has not seen a proper release. Get it sorted out- we want our shows!!!

Watch for a smaller company to probably sell "Best of" sets of the series or something of that nature... doubtful you will see the entire seasons released but with a marquee television show like Murphy Brown, as long as the studio is willing to make SOME money on them, you will see the DvDs in some fashion.

reply

They probably will come out in the end, look at Mary tyler Moore now on its 4th season, I think it also might have something to do with the music, but they cleared it for the first season, but it might be too expensive for the second season because they might not be willing to risk spending the money if no one is going to buy the set

Another one that has been left out for the same royalty reasons on the music is WKRP In Cincinnati. When they tell us that they won't release more because of "low sales figures", it is a lie they think we are stupid enough to believe. It has been plenty long enough for them to try working out some deal with the artists. They could add a credit on the DVD release for the artist, thereby limiting the need for paying royalties. They could increase the sale price of the DVD sets a little bit to help defray the cost of any royalties owed. Shoot, they could just go out and get the permission of the artists to use their material gratis. There are many ways they could work out the royalty issues for these shows. I just thought of another one by the way. The wonderfully quirky Dharma and Greg. What all of these shows have in common is a commonality in the segment of the viewing public from which they had their audiences drawn. I did notice that there was no such difficulty with releases for MASH, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Alias and Lost, all of which have music royalty issues but were all released in their entirety. Perhaps someone simply needs to point out to them, more forcefully with each needed new effort, that perhaps it is not the fault of the music or the show or the fans that they have not been able to work out this issue, perhaps it is that they are too stupid themselves to adjust their tactics and methods of negotiation to meet the needs of the time and the current group of musicians that would likely say, "Yeah, go ahead and use it, just find some way to credit me or something." I personally think they badly flubbed it with one artist, and rather than sending a different person to handle the negotiations, they decided that all musicians were that way and they would never get a shred of permission to use any music from the show at all. We know that reasoning is foolish, at least those of us that live in the real world, but those that seem to live in corporate world have this fantasy that if one member of a group behaves a certain way, all members of that group will do so as well. This is muddied and clouded thinking on their part, but they need to justify their fiction to us in some way, don't they? I would, as many others would, buy them as they came out, since this was the prime successful sit-com of its era and format. A pity they think so little of us, but then that is merely a reflection of the even poorer opinion they must have of themselves, whether they admit it to themselves or not. We do not need them to admit it to us, as we are already aware of their vast shortcomings in humanity. Anyway, sorry this dragged on a bit, and I will now wish you a wonderful day.

Everyone! If we want Season 2, go to www.tvshowsondvd.com and vote for Murphy Brown Season 2!

reply

If it's the music, it's probably all in negotiations. Look at Married...With Children. It took forever because of the "Love and Mariage" tune.
Melrose Place and Beverly Hills 90210. Normally they would've been released much earlier. That was also because of the music. There were many significant songs in there and it would've simply been too expensive to buy the rights to all those songs.
That's why they simply are replacing them on there forthcoming releases.

Most of "Murphy Brown" was signature source music aside from the Motown touches. Motown wouldn't stop them. Some shows have released DVDs with new source music instead of key songs because the fans were so hot for them like'Georgia' in "Quantum Leap"; "Ray" had made Ray Charles hot again and his estate was demanding horrific royalties for use in the DVDs. Universal released it with a different song and it killed sales. The song was so intrigal to a main character's overall plotline. Now the show isn't completely out and while it had a revival on SciFi (complete with song as airing under old contract), its too old to get other syndication and thus fans can't 'get it' themselves.
The silly estate didn't realize it would have benefitted more from the re-exposure in that format. At least The Stones learned that lesson.

However, I think the problem with "Murphy Brown" is that the show is still running on TVLand, Nick at Nite and a few local stations in syndication. /If it never goes away, people won't miss it./ Its the generation, if they can still watch it for free, they won't pay. With newer shows like Friends, even with it running on every other channel, the DVDs are big sellers. Seinfeld noticed that and held off until syndication was lower. Fraiser is learning this.

The companies should just admit they're going to release the whole set, do it and see how sales go faster by the time the whole set is available. They're stupid for saying they might release the whole set and then stop after bad sales. The quick buck isn't the longest lasting guys!

I may have to dig deeper into that site, but I don't recall seeing a petition for it on there. Some direction(or a direct link to where to vote) might help.

I'm probably one of the few people who never saw an episode before it came out on DVD. My wife(before we met) was addicted to the show. When the first season came out, she bought it. We took the set with us on our trip to Germany last year. We watched the whole first season on our laptop. I was hooked within 5 minutes of the first episode. She was very disappointed that season two didn't come out before she died(Aug 23, 2006. Recurrance of ovarian cancer). She kept checking websites, and signing petitions for the whole series to be released. I will be buying each season, as they come out, on the day they come out.

I love the show, and Murphy reminds me so much of my late wife.

I figure this might be why they are selling it so cheaply. A couple weeks ago I picked it up at Future Shop for C$25. The problem I found with Murphy Brown here in Canada, is that nobody carried the set for sale. I think that might be part of the reason that future seasons were not released is that it wasn't readily available in Canada. I realize comparatively Canada is small potatoes compared to the US market, but I figure Canada is the place that can push the mediocre selling sets to decent numbers.

Also, just remember one thing Mad About You's 2nd season was released 2 or 3 years ago and the 3rd Season is due out in February or March. So never say never about Murphy Brown.

I am hoping....I am in my 30's (I know younger) but I still love this show.
