Another one that has been left out for the same royalty reasons on the music is WKRP In Cincinnati. When they tell us that they won't release more because of "low sales figures", it is a lie they think we are stupid enough to believe. It has been plenty long enough for them to try working out some deal with the artists. They could add a credit on the DVD release for the artist, thereby limiting the need for paying royalties. They could increase the sale price of the DVD sets a little bit to help defray the cost of any royalties owed. Shoot, they could just go out and get the permission of the artists to use their material gratis. There are many ways they could work out the royalty issues for these shows. I just thought of another one by the way. The wonderfully quirky Dharma and Greg. What all of these shows have in common is a commonality in the segment of the viewing public from which they had their audiences drawn. I did notice that there was no such difficulty with releases for MASH, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Alias and Lost, all of which have music royalty issues but were all released in their entirety. Perhaps someone simply needs to point out to them, more forcefully with each needed new effort, that perhaps it is not the fault of the music or the show or the fans that they have not been able to work out this issue, perhaps it is that they are too stupid themselves to adjust their tactics and methods of negotiation to meet the needs of the time and the current group of musicians that would likely say, "Yeah, go ahead and use it, just find some way to credit me or something." I personally think they badly flubbed it with one artist, and rather than sending a different person to handle the negotiations, they decided that all musicians were that way and they would never get a shred of permission to use any music from the show at all. We know that reasoning is foolish, at least those of us that live in the real world, but those that seem to live in corporate world have this fantasy that if one member of a group behaves a certain way, all members of that group will do so as well. This is muddied and clouded thinking on their part, but they need to justify their fiction to us in some way, don't they? I would, as many others would, buy them as they came out, since this was the prime successful sit-com of its era and format. A pity they think so little of us, but then that is merely a reflection of the even poorer opinion they must have of themselves, whether they admit it to themselves or not. We do not need them to admit it to us, as we are already aware of their vast shortcomings in humanity. Anyway, sorry this dragged on a bit, and I will now wish you a wonderful day.
