Entire series filmed in Australia?

I've been watching these and notice a number of Australian references in the end credits. Was the entire 1988 series filmed in Australia?

reply

Sure was. I think the first season was filmed in Victoria (with one episode filmed at the Sovereign Hill tourist park in my home town of Ballarat), and season two was filmed on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

reply

Yep.... Gotta LOL at the episode where a space shuttle takes off from Australia... That would never happen in a million years.

reply

Never say never :-)
Google Woomera

reply

Yes but Woomera was the 50s and 60s, and not much happens there now.. It would take more money then this government is willing to commit to make it a spaceport

reply

I remember it as more active long after that. But now? As you say ...

reply

And now the americans have made the crazy decision to mothball the shuttles and pay the Russians to hitch a lift into space... Crazy

reply

Very crazy!!! Please don't judge us all by one crazy decision-maker in Washington.

reply

I'm not ...... I'm just baffled by the decision makers in Washington.

What's to stop the Russians now say jacking up the prices one day by holding a crew to ransom kind of, especially for a return trip home?

reply

"Space Hostages"

Coming soon to a cinema near you, from the writer, director, and executive producer of "Skylab Falls On Australia"

LOL

reply

Well I'm just thinking the "what if's"

How would the US react if that happened?

reply

"Skylab Falls On Australia"
That was pretty funny. I actually did laugh out loud :-0

"How would the US react if that happened?"
With this president? How did he react to events in Egypt, Japan, and Libya? Probably nothing.

BTW, were you folks affected by the tsunami at all?

reply

Nup...... No effects in Australia at all. We did get a wave, as did other places like Indonesia but by the time it came to our part of the world it was like 20cm and even then didn't even make it to the coast

reply

Hey Muggy! If you're still checking in here, I guess you saw, now that the U.S. space shuttle program is ending, Russia is charging double the price to send our astronauts and equipment to the international space station. No squawk from the White House.

reply

I did hear

I was saying that to someone else that this could be a bad deal. What's to stop the Russians hiking up the prices by leaving a crew up there till they agree, kind of like a ransom..

Bad idea

EDIT: Nothing wrong with the shuttles either. I just don't get their decision making.

Actually no, the shuttles were in terribhle shape and had to be refinished after every mission "Impossible" , they were costing a fortune and endangering lives. America was suppose to have the Constellation / Orion system up and running by now.

reply

Even though you waited almost two and a half years to answer the previous post, you are and were correct. I live close enough to watch the shuttle launches from my home. Space news and shuttle photos were always on the local news (tv, newspapers, etc). They always looked beat up after a mission ("Impossible" ... loved that segue :-0) like an ice road truck drove them all over Alaska and Canada. Not all Americans agree with the leadership decisions that led to the current, extremely dismal state of our space program.

The entire first season of the revival was shot in Queensland. The whole second season was filmed in Victoria. Only the season two opener ("The Golden Serpent") was shot partially in Sydney, which made memorable use of Sydney Harbour - a decade before Cruise took his trip down under to shoot M:I 2

reply

In author Patrick J.White's excellent book about both M:I series,"The Mission:Impossible Dossier,"he praises the location filming of the second M:I TV show.He writes that by shooting entirely in Australia the show truly looked like it was in the real world.Locations in Australia passed for various countries as called for by the scripts. While White felt that the original series from the 60s was superior to the reboot of the 80s,too often the 60s show looked like a product of filming on the Hollywood back lots.It lead to a certain staleness & repetition in the look of the show.Australia provided breathtaking fresh vistas for the series & gave it a real international flavor.
