I loved this show, but always wondered...

when did Jack sleep?

reply

After work, during the day, like most people working nights do. Been a long time since I watched the show and memory is foggy, but I'm pretty sure that was both mentioned and shown on screen.

reply

It was. I can definitely remember episodes where someone would show up at his house during the day and waking a bleary-eyed Jack.

reply

Indeed, his well deserved rest was often upset by visit from Devon or sometimes from Deacon, when he was pursuing some story. Jack would, at his pace, make sure to let them know that he was not very pleased :)

As someone who worked nights myself, I used to ache for him when he didn't get his regulation eight hours (or more in my case, then usually a nap during my shift too). Jack was so conscientious, he didn't mind getting up during the day to go and right wrongs.

reply

During the day. He's shown just waking up quite a few times in the series, "Blues For Mr. Charlie", for example.

I have to agree that I also wondered how he managed to get any sleep since he was usually all over the place during the day. I also hear that most talk radio hosts have to spend time preparing for their show and he never got time to do this either. Of course, for sheer entertainment value, I watched it as often as I could since I also was on shift work and often did not get to watch it and had just gotten a VCR and did not always get to tape it. It was a show that certainly did not last as long as I wish it had. Talk radio was just getting started then and I would like to see someone try to revive this show. I think it would probably be more successful today since more time is spent on the back stories of the characters. Hope I get to see it again on reruns someday. Gary Cole has done well and that was the first time I saw him and enjoy his performances. Good job, Mr. Cole!
