Loved this show

AHHHhhhhh the memories. JTTOU wasn't critically acclaimed and didn't have the best ratings but it was unique, filled with quirky characters going through quirky situations. I still love this show!!!

This show was freakin' awesome! I remember laughing so hard in the first episode that I cried. The dad was hilarious, and the Good Catholic daughter Marie.
I know it was a spin off of Growing Pains, but after this show started coming on, I stopped watching Growing Pains completely. You can argue that the premise was dumb (6 sisters going to an all-boys school), and it probably was, but it really worked somehow without being cheezy. I like how they acknowledged that a teacher/coach father would have a hard time financially supporting that big of a family. GREAT SHOW.

PS Sister Ethel and Father Hargis ROCKED.

I totally agree. I loved watching this show. I started watching the episodes at one time then when I saw an episode of Growing Pains thats when I realize it was a spin off. Hehe... I used to watch this tv show all the time when it was on. I love the episodes of when the four daughters were sneaking out and singing as a group The Lubbock Babes. Almost every episode made me laugh one point or another. Very entertaining.

I agree! I wish they would re-run the episodes. It has been awhile since I'v seen them. I think that USA or something aired them a few years ago, but since then, nothing.

I loved this show, my sister and I used to watch it together, granted by that time, it was reruns, but it was still the best show!

Has the fact that you're completely psycho managed to escape your attention?

I loved this show too!!! I remember loving it even more than "Growing Pains." I wish the would rerun it on USA again. It was sooooo good! :)

I use to watch it when USA Network would air this but you have to remember that since they have aired this on the USA Network they have altered their programming to do exactly what everyone is doing which is show crime and drama shows which really sucks I think in my opinion!

I wished that they would bring this back along with some other programming on USA Network. I would love that and think that it would be great to see on again!

Yeah, remember when Sister Ethel is at this snow bound lodge thinking the girls are there when they aren't? Coach calls her and this occurs:
S. Ethel: Oh, don't worry. Samantha and Chrissy are just fine.
Coach: I don't give a damn about "Samantha and Chrissy"!
S. Ethel (outraged): What kind of a father are you?????? (hangs up on Coach)

Then at the end she rings the doorbell and brings in two black girls and says, "Don't worry Coach, your daughters are home safe and sound."

to the op this show got good ratings but was canceled due to abc wanting an "edgier" adult show

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_the_10_of_us#Cancellation

ABC Network politics, not ratings issues, canceled Just the Ten Of Us in the spring of 1990. The family-friendly Friday night sitcom lineup, which had been dubbed TGIF the previous fall, was witnessing growing success in the 1989-90 season with three shows from Miller-Boyett Productions: Full House, Family Matters, and Perfect Strangers. Wanting to complete the TGIF lineup with a program that visually and creatively meshed closely with the three, ABC decided that there was to be a fourth sitcom from Miller/Boyett in the 9:30/8:30 time slot that fall. Warner Bros. Television and producers Guntzelman/Marshall entered a battle over their show's fate, and the show's runners had a solid case: the series consistently won its time slot, provided an excellent lead-in to news magazine 20/20, and had a great fan base that carried over from Growing Pains viewership. When it came down to the 1990 network upfronts, it was ultimately decided that there would be no other suitable time slot for Just the Ten Of Us, and ABC announced that they had already committed to Going Places, the new Miller-Boyett sitcom with an adult "edge" that would serve as the 20/20 lead-in. Ironically, all Miller-Boyett shows were produced in association with Lorimar Productions, which Warners had just acquired.

The series was not picked up for another season, with no other network as a prospect for giving it a new home. Just the Ten Of Us left the network during summer reruns in late July 1990. Although ABC saw even greater success with its TGIF lineup in the 1990-91 season, the new series, Going Places, only lasted a single season before getting the Nielsen "axe". In the wake of this action, the Head of Entertainment at ABC filed a press statement nearly one year after the abrupt cancellation of Just the Ten of Us, in which he stated that the network brass "moved too quickly" in canceling the show.

There were some very good episodes. Here are some of my favorites:
1. Elizabeth tries to organize a church choir and the auditions are a riot.
2. The girls sneak away to the Virgin Islands with Doosler.
3. Coach Lubbock gets a second job as "Mitch" at the Burger Barn.
4. Marie finds a boyfriend. Too bad this wasn't expanded.
5. Sherri smokes a cigarette and her parents think it is Wendy who did it.

Is that the episode where J.R. doesn't want to try out but Graham makes him sing so he sings "Chatanooga Choo-Choo" and Graham stops him and tells him to go down the basement and smoke a cigar? LOL Always one of my favorite moments on the show.

reply

Yeah, but let me correct you. JR goes first and Elizabeth gives him a song to sing. It turns out to be "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story. After Coach hears his son singing he tells him he's not in the choir because he enjoyed that song too much. Maybe he did tell him to smoke a cigar in the basement, I don't remember. Coach sings "Chatanooga" when it is his turn and only after Elizabeth yells at him to sing. Another funny part is when they are at rehearsal and Coach is sitting next to a boy who calls his daughters "Babes" and Coach gets mad and puts him in a head lock.

reply

LOL That's right. Thanks for correcting me. He did tell JR to go smoke a cigar in the basement btw.
