The mom talking to God

Anyone remember the episode where the mom was outside praying and God talked to her? You didn't hear Him, you only saw her responding. What happened in that episode and how long after it aired did the show end?

I remember the episode! After Elizabeth (the mom) made the humorous analogy to God sounding like Phil Rizzuto, people heard about this and there was a bit of a media circus in the front yard of the Lubbock residence because people wanted to pray with Elizabeth. Then, because of the growing hoopla, Elizabeth stopped hearing God's voice, and life was on its way back to normal. At the very end of the episode, alone in the front yard Father Hargraves (spelling?) is shown kneeling, and confesses - outloud with his head raised to the sky - that he's gotten the message, and that he's listening.

I don't remember exactly when the show ended, just that I still miss it. You can check TV.com for the episode guide to see the timeframe between the original airing of this episode and the final episode airing.

It was Episode #7. (Airdate November 11, 1988) 40 more episodes ran afterwards (Final: May 4, 1990)

If you were implying that someone may have had a problem with it and the show was cancelled, i don't think that was the case. The show had tons of religious references.

The show had a lot of religious references, but was also pretty racy for being an ABC family-oriented sitcom. It was hilarious. One minute, you got people talking about praying to God about forgiveness, the next you have one on of the sisters say the other's dressed like a hooker who stands on street corners. I freakin' LOVED this show!!

Is that because she has eight children? or because six of them are females?
