Alot of Crime for Small TOWN....

I believe the town of Sparta had less than 10,000 people in it, yet Murders robberies, rape are regular events. Most small towns don't have this amount of crime , anyone else find this odd?

that becomes the issue when a series of such premise lasts so long.
and the fact that every single employee and relative has had more than their own share of trauma.
Every time Bubba or Parker got a new girl friend, you just new it wasn't going to turn out good.

And then there is Althea , she got it all! (not that I cared I admit.)

Sparta, Mississippi did have a lot of issues but I guess that could be a sign of the times, it was the 80's . Issues in the big cities hit home in small towns like today.

Or Jasper, AL.

And, then there's "The Phenix City Story", an actual movie released in 1955 depicting the true story about how Phenix City, also in Alabama, got named the wickedest city in the USA, owing to how adept the mafia were in running vice there.

They even made reference to it one of the episodes. They said something to the effect of one murder per week.

I would never understand why Althea Tibbs didn't want to leave Sparta after she got raped and the news was around town. I mean damn she even was kidnapped in season 1, her best and dearest friend killed herself while visiting her in Sparta and she also seen a student of her's kill himself in front of her which caused her a nervous breakdown.

But actually this day and age, you have a lot of small towns that have big crime it's not just the cities. Trying going to a number of town in Essex County, NJ. Towns that are no more than 1 mile long has some horrific crimes.

They were a small town that was off the interstate. Notice a lot of episodes were centered on people who left & came back with drama or people who wandered off the interstate or people who were trying to create jobs in Sparta with some kind of tax break. The city council was always trying to vote on revitalization. The 10,000 was a starting point.
