Does anyone remember that "Amelia" left the show during the middle of the last season after breaking off her engagement with Ethan. There was always the question of if or would she come back. I remember wondering why she left...any thoughts????

Honestly, she should've finished the season anyway even if she were a little bit pregnant. Then we'd have closure and I wouldn't be dreaming about Paradise 17 years later...

I was also under the impression that she was not happy with the show's new direction (was anyone?), and being a big star in Australia, didn't feel the need to stay on a show she was no longer comfortable with.
I thought her departure was handled well, actually. Amelia always did have qualms about Ethan's violent past, and his taking on a violent profession just never did sit well with her sensibilities.
Ooooohh! Was that why the title changed to 'Guns of Paradise'? Ethan became the town lawman? I couldn't quite remember.

As I recall, a lot of people thought that the show was some sort of fantasy or sci-fi type of show when it was titled Paradise. I can see how someone might think that based solely on the title. It was changed to Guns of Paradise to make it sound more like an old western. The direction of the show changed and it became more action-oriented.
shareI thought at the time there was some problem with her green card. Some immigration thing. How many episodes did she miss? Didn't they leave it kind of up in the air when she left (their romance I mean) and then at the end she sent him a letter saying she wasn't coming back? I can't remember.
shareIn the series, Amelia did not leave a letter but John Taylor the Indian said she'd be back, giving the viewers hope.
Had "Paradise" been renewed and Sigrid Thornton happy with the series, she probably would have returned at the end of the season (as she did in the previous season finale) or appeared in the beginning of the new season(fall 1991).
She left the show temporarily exercising an out in her contract to do a movie with Olympia Dukakis If the show had been renewed, she would have returned though I wouldn't have blamed her for leaving. The third season was pretty awful.
