Just a cheap Tales from the Crypt ripoff...

I read about this show years ago, and it sounded interesting as I'm a Freddy fan. Then it started running on Chiller.
I was more then slightly disappointed. I watched like five episodes and lost interest.
Why would I want to watch a cheap TFTC ripoff, when I can just watch TFTC?

Freddy's Nightmares definitely wasn't the best of these types of series, but I've seen an episode or two so far that were at least decent.

I don't think there's really been a good incarnation of Tales From the Crypt, except maybe the Demon Knight movie.. the HBO series wasn't much better than Freddy's Nightmares. Creepshow was probably the best remake or "clone" of that format.

how can this be a rip off of tftc when it started a year before tftc did?

The Tales/Crypt HBO series started later, but the original comics came out in the '50s and they had a movie or two out in the 60s or 70s

I remember watching this 20 years ago when it premeired on cable TV. I loved the show and only one episode really sticks into my head and that is where a woman who is over weight comes into a clinic to have liposuction done and all of her major organs was sucked out.

I thought that was gorey but I loved it and the reason why I remember it so well is because I had a cut out of a model/actress who appeared onto the show. It was great and a shame that it did not stick around very long.

Also you have to remember as well they had Friday The 13th The Series which I have not seen in like 10 years. I loved that show as well!

The main difference between the two is that Freddy was active in several episodes, beyond being the host. The Crypt Keeper in the series never did that. He just stuck to his vault and told the story. Same with the old comics.

Like another poster said. TFTC is a rip off of Freddys Nightmares. Get the facts straight before you start mouthing off.

Uh, the comic's bee around for how long?

Are you serious? I didnt see that in your post. Oh well Why would I watch Freddy's Nightmares when I could sit down and read a Tales From the Crypt comic book. You obviously were comparing the shows not the comic book. In which, TFTC is a rip off of Freddys Nightmares.

I thought "Freddy's Nightmares" and "Tales from the Crypt" were both inspired by both "The Twilight Zone" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents".

They both have a stand alone horror-themed story in each episode (Twilight Zone), and each have a famous person or character introducing each episode with a sense of dark humor (Alfred Hitchcock Presents). There's no ripping off here.

While "Freddy's Nightmares" is based off the popularity of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET film series, "Tales from the Crypt" is based off the old EC comic books as we all know. The producers of TFTC may have gotten the idea from seeing "Freddy's Nightmares" but the source material is totally different and therefore we have two totally different shows with a similar formula.

Wow, this is a stupid thread.

As briantylerrockssocks said above, the origins of both series can be traced back to shows like "The Twilight Zone," "One Step Beyond," "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and "The Veil." Anthology shows continued on through the '60s and '70s with other shows like "Ghost Story" and "Night Gallery," but popularity waned.

In the '80s, however, they had a huge comeback. "The Twilight Zone" returned along with "Monsters," "Tales from the Dark Side," "Amazing Stories," "Friday the 13th" and, of course, "Freddy's Nightmares" and "Tales from the Crypt."

To say that either "Crypt" or "Nightmares" ripped off one another is preposterous. Season 1 of "Freddy's Nightmares" almost exclusively featured stories that dealt with dreams (season 2 branched off into cannibals, aliens and other weird nonsense) -- sometimes with Freddy as the villain, but always with him as the host -- and it was unique in that there were frequently sequels to episodes. "Tales from the Crypt" featured live-action versions of the exact same stories that were published in the '50s comics, which the Cryptkeeper hosted just as he had in print (although the comics also featured hosts The Old Witch and The Vaultkeeper, both of whom showed up in the animated "Crypt" spin-off in the '90s). Certainly there was a bit of similarity in the execution, but again, that traces back to the '50s and '60s anthology shows.

Tales from the Crypt ripped off Freddy's Nightmares??????

Wow, they should teach TV in school so kids don't make fools of themselves.

As stated above, Tales was based off of the EC Comics from the 50's and 60's. Tales From the Crypt was originally going to be an Anthology movie in the mid 80's, it didn't happen and it came back around to HBO and became an Anthology show.

Anthology horror shows have been around a long time, as evidence by Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock, ect.

Saying an Anthology show ripped off another due to format is like saying LOST ripped of 24 because they are both an hour long.
