The later episodes had such a sappy soap opera feel to them

I LOVE the FN series, but did anyone else feel like they were watching more of a dramatic soap opera when they watched the season 2 episodes? And that MUSIC it played during love scenes, I almost forget it's a horror series I'm watching lol

But they are still good.

Just because we lose today's battle doesn't mean we've lost tommorow's war.

I like how the shows were staged. They were working with a very limited budget (cheap sets, cheap videotape) so they couldn't disguise that and they really didn't it. So instead of having a discount attempt at the Twilight Zone, you had a show that acted like a fever dream and felt unreal. Granted, not all shows on videotape were cheap and bad (Darkside and Monsters show you can do a lot with very little), but it worked wonders on Freddy's Nightmares. It was a good solution to a lack of funding that seems very sad in hindsight.

What I dont understand is the whole tight budget thing. I mean, wasnt the NOES franchise a worldwide phenomenon around this time? Couldn't they think to themselves "well look how well the movie's doing, if we invest in this and promote it right it could be just as big". Its really strange to me that we always hear them go on about how hard up they were considering the franchise was the toast of Hollywood at the time.

That's because the cinematographer never shot for horror before. He was a daytime soap guy who mostly only did soaps. The rest of the crew hated the way he shot the series.
