Richard Dawson

umm it says he hosted 94-95 and ray did it 88-94 isn't that backwards

reply

nope. Dawson hosted this Family Feud: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073991/ which was cancelled. Then the show was brought back in 88 with Ray, and then Dawson returned for one season.

Here is one thing I found out on several websites that is one thing you did not know of. I found out that the true history of the Family feud game show is this- It started out with Richard Dawson on the show and he would come out and kiss every female contestant. Then executive producer Mark Goodson made Richard stop doing that after a woman fussed about being kissed on national tv. Then the show's popularity went down because other women wanted to be kissed by Richard but he told them his boss would not let him. Then Mark Goodson came up and wanted to make Richard start kissing again and the two got into an arguement. Then Mark threw Richard out and brought Ray Combs in but Mark Goodson's son did not like what his dad had done. I then found out that after those six years that Ray had been on the show he had a wreck in his car and was really badly injured. The doctors said that he would take close to two years to fully heal up. So right there since Mark Goodson had died and his son had took over his son decided that they should bring Richard back for that two year time. Well as the time went by Ray Combs recovered in half the time the Doctors said it would take. When he came in to the studio one day to go on the show the people told him he would have to wait until Richard's contract ran out. Well then things went bad because his wife stated that as she was watching Richard on the show Ray was starting to bang his head on the wall and was getting suicidal. Then when they had Ray put into a mental institution the people there made the mistake of putting him in a room that the closet had had hanging bar strong enough to hold ray up off the ground. It then came on the news that Ray Combs had taken a sheet off of his bed and made a hangman's noose and hung himself in the closet because of how jealous he was over Richard being back on the game show. So after that news came out and Richard's contact exspired he refused to sign another contract because he did not want the rest of the world to think he was the main one to blame for Ray killing himself. One thing I found out is the one to blame was Ray himself because he acted Jealous and how he acted like if he could not be the host of that show then he would do something to shut the show down all those years. It was not until the last 6 years and someone else getting the rights to the show that we have seen any Family Feud game show on tv and it is all because of how Ray killed himself just because he could not be on the show for those two years.

Wow there is so much wrong with that story I dont know where to begin.

First of about the kissing. Richard stopped the kissing after he married in 1981. He meet his wife on the show she was a contestant.

Mark Goodson, Richard Daswon and Howard Felcher( the show producer) fought often but not over the kissing. It is said that Richard was hard to work with. Howard and Richard fought alot about the answers given. Howard was the "JUDGE" of the show and if he decided on something that Richard didnt like they would have it out. Sometimes on air and infront of the contestance and audience.

Ray had his accident well after he left Family Feud. Ray's rating slipped at the end. With Mark Goodson pasted, his son thought ratings will be saved by bringing back Richard. Ray was upset but that was not the reason he killed himself. After feud he hosted a show called Family Challenage. This show failed and was cancled. Ray was also in the middle of a bad devorce. He had lost all his money from bad investments and on top of the car accident he fell in a hot tub and hit his head. All this added up to him taking his life.

Richard didnt renew his contact cause he didnt have the chance too. His rating where not all that great. His hosting style had changed. He was having trouble reading the questions so that people would understand him. He was also( according to his contract) was to loose 20 pounds before taping began but he didnt. He actually gained wait. The show was put on the shelf and was later redone with louie anderson. New set and all.

That is the story behind ray and richard. I dont know where you got your information from but im sorry to say that they are wrong.

Partyrific,

The message i had posted is where i got information from other websites when i would look up Ray Combs, Richard Dawson, or Family Feud on the yahoo.com search engine. With what you just listed telling me is very helpful. You see back when Ray killed himself the local news media in my area were the ones that had things saying that the main reason he killed himself is because of Richard coming back and his wife and kids liking Richard better than him on the show. SO you see I was just going by what i had found on websites of old news articles and what my local news reporters said on tv.

"the main reason he killed himself is because of Richard coming back and his wife and kids liking Richard better than him on the show."

Where does it say Ray killed himself because of his family liking Richard better than Ray? Do you have a link?

reply

I have the info from a video news report that they aired years ago but i do not have an internet link to it. If you get the people of CBS news to dig through thier old news files over the last 20 years you should be able to find it then. I can tell you it was a horrible thing when Ray's wife got on tv in the interview and was having to fight tears because of how her husband did something so foolish. IT is a stupid thing for someone to kill themselves just because they are jealous of someone else.

It wasn't really because Ray was jealous it was because Johnathan Goodson just fired him the host even though he was doing a good job for reasons that wasn't really his fault. They had all of those celebrity and other types of Specials on a show called FAMILY Feud. Almost all of those specials were not about FAMILIES. Also they got the Bullseye round for the CBS version and then they just had to add that dammed Bullseye round to the syndicated show. The producers should have payed attention to what Wheel of Fortune did by removing the shopping from the syndicated version to make the game go faster. The producers of Feud should have taken the Bullseye round out of the show when they saw ratings go down. But that was only half of the problem. They should have also cut back on the "Specials" and made more eisodes that featured the good old feud. Johnathan Goodson said the syndicator told him that they would have to cancel the show unless they come up with something. Well they should have took the Bullseye out of the show. A host change was NOT the solution to keep the show going. But you know how it went and the rest is unfortunate history.

Also Ray had gotten into a terrible accident that left him temorarily paralized from the neck down. He became very depressed after the accident and THAT was the main factor that killed him. Not to mention after the accident he fell into debt, had to close his comedy clubs, and got a divorce. And he didn't have Family Feud or a family help him with his depression. His wife left took the kids with her.

So you see if he still had his job hosting Family Feud he may not have fallen into debt and would still be in the public eye and be recognized when he is walking down the street. He probably would have not been driving that night and would never have became paralyzed or depressed.

I did not know the info you just mentioned because all I have ever known is what the news media in my area put on the nightly news.

reply

I saw Combs' story on the "E! True Hollywood Story" on both "Ray Combs" and "Famlly Feud" episodes.

reply

Well where I live in the southeast states all the news media showed here was the following-

That Ray had that car wreck and because of how the doctors said he would be laid up in the hospital for at least 12 to 18 months and in order for them to keep the game show going the only thing that could be done is bring Richard Dawson back on the show for a two year time so that Ray could recover and do physical thearapy to get back into shape to come back. Then the news reporters 12 months later reported how he had recovered faster than the doctors all said he would and that when he walked in figuring that he could just step up and take back control of the game show and was told no because he had to wait for Dawson's contract to run out is when the news media started reporting about his mental problems. You see where i live in the southeast it seems they tell the story different than what is mentioned where you live.

reply

I'm sorry but the info you got is false.

Well right there shows me one thing that many people have started saying- "You can not trust what the news Media people tell you 99.99% of the time." This right here with what you have told me reveals that those news media people twist things around to please themselves just like others who want to gossip a whole lot about things.

There is something ironic about telling Richard Dawson to lose weight and then hiring Louie Anderson.

You must have fabricated this story all by yourself because it is 100% inconsistent with the facts.
