All fingers point to Marc Summers. Sadly, he was heavily into his OCD stage (Although he didn't know it yet.), and was getting angrier and angrier each time someone like Harvey, or the contestants would slime him. He showered 5-6 times a day, to get the gak off. It also didn't help that Nickeldeon was beginning its new generation, and kids were interested in "Cooler" shows like GUTS and Legends of the Hidden Temple. Another main reason, was the absence of Harvey for most of the final season (Although I liked Doc Holliday. Especially how excited he got whenever the 8th prize was a car.), due to his new child. Nickeldeon just simply decided it didn't fit on their network anymore (As did Marc.) and the show's last filmed epsiode was in 1993, with the ultimate family tournament (Which Harvey showed up for.)

Sad, but true.

Oooooooooooooooo...I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok!

Which is why that Nick GAS didn't air any of the tournament episodes in 1993. They kept showing the 1990 and 1992 seasons. Not the 1988 or '93 episodes.

Its amazing where you'll end up if you aren't careful. After another remarkable night of nothing on over 300 channels of television, we happened upon the 1993 Tournament of Champions episode of Family Double Dare, w/ trophy and all being displayed in the background. Nick GAS brought us this great flashback, and as an encore we got to see the Celebrity Family Double Dare, with special guests Rain Pryor and Tina Yothers -- ahh, the golden days... !!

We just got the GAS channel recently. It's great watching these old Nick gameshows with my 5year old son. He likes all the shows on the "pumping gas" block(except for Figure It Out).
Whats this about Marc Summers and OCD?

You're right about the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) he had. But I just heard, that it did bug him all through the years he was hosting Double Dare, Super Sloppy Double Dare, and Family Double Dare, he just didn't want anybody to know that it was bothering him, so he still kept hosting it, even though it bothered him a whole lot.

reply

Yes, I know what OCD stands for.
I was just curious what type he had. Was it a germs/wash your hands a lot type of thing? This is the first I've heard of it.

reply

If it did anger Summers, he did a fantastic job of concealing it. I don't know what the exact kind was but what happens is he kept thinking he was dirty, so he kept cleaning himself, taking a shower, washing his hands etc. and soon after he did that, he probably still felt dirty so did it again, and again, and so on throughout the day and if it goes on for years it does build up anger and it's something that you don't wanna tell people. Hopefully he got it treated because Summers was one of the best, if not THE best host in Nickelodeon history.

Mark Summers was a great host. It must have been tough having OCD and working on a show like Double Dare. It really shows what a professional he was.

JD2635, this just came to my mind. Aren't you forgetting to mention that they don't air 1991 episodes of Family Double Dare, either?

reply

FYI: There were NO 1991 epsiodes, except the two Super Special Double Dare shows, which have been on Nick GaS.

There was only 1 epsiode of Double Dare that was new, shown in 1993: The Tournament of Champions special, and even that has been on Nick GaS numerous times.

Hey, I didn't know, so you have no reason to get nasty at me. Ok, so there were only two episodes of the 1991 one, I just noticed that now. Now I know. Also, what do you mean The Tournament of Champions special, was shown I have watched Nick GAS a lot and never seen it on there, plus JD2635 mentioned, that 1988 and 1993 episodes weren't shown. Only 1990 and 1992.

reply

Wasn't being nasty, just putting an emphasis on "No.". :D
The Tournament of Champions special has aired numerous times on Nick GaS, including a few months ago, just recently. It was the only 1993 epsiode I know of.

They really don't like showing Fox 1988 epsiodes, because it's much different from any other form of Double Dare.

Oooooooooooooooo...I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok!

reply

Ok. My bad. I'm sorry I accused you of getting nasty with me. I hope you'll forgive me. Also, that explains why we never see any Fox Family Double Dare on Nick GAS that aired in 1988.

reply

You can see one online, as well as a "Double Dare" episode from 1988, but the Fox Family one has horrible picture.

There's no such thing as an "anger disorder," but people with anxiety disorders like OCD or GAD can indeed get very angry when their buttons, so to speak, are pushed in the wrong way.
