what's the explanation for Sophia

Okay, so the Golden Girls leaves networks and becomes the Golden Palace. In the first episode of the Palace, the girls are shown moving from their home in Miami to the hotel in Miami Beach. So why is Sophia still in the neighborhood a few years later when she joins the cast of Empty Nest? Is this ever explained?

reply

I was waiting for those episodes to see if they explained why Sophia was no longer at the hotel with Blanche and Rose . . . I missed the later seasons of Empty Nest when it originally aired. But from what I understand, Sophia moves back to Shady Pines Retirement Home which is not that far away from the Weston's house. I think in one of the episodes of the Golden Girls it was mentioned that Shady Pines was 10 or 15 minutes away from Blanche's house. I'm not sure if an explaination was ever given about the hotel or why Sophia returned to Shady Pines.

There is no explanation. We'll just have to make up our own stories.

It makes no sense why she would end up at Shady Pines. If she had to leave the hotel and life with Blanche and Rose, she could've ended up back with Dorothy or her other daughter Gloria. A crappy end for a great character.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

It was for ratings. Sophia was a popular character but Estelle Getty was getting sick.

What???? Yes, Sophia becoming a character on Empty Nest was for ratings. They lost Kristy McNichol and the character of Sophia was popular. However, this was a couple years after Golden Palace was cancelled. Estelle Getty was not sick. She was still a working actress. You have no idea what you're talking about and clearly don't understand the original question.

The people you idolize wouldn't like you.
