The NEW LAFF Network Broadcasts

As a major fan of this show, I'm interested in finding out if anyone knows if the recent airings on the LAFF Network for Empty Nest were the original uncut episodes or cut-down syndicated versions?

Please let me know, thanks!

I have no idea. But, I would strongly suspect that you are seeing the latter (i.e., the cut-down syndicated versions).

One way to tell: see if you can "time" the episode.

If the content is approximately 22-24 minutes, you are seeing the full and unedited version of the episode.

If the content is less than that, the station has "cut away" some scenes (or dialogue) to squeeze in extra commercial time.

reply

There are some cuts, but less than when Hallmark reaired the show.

Not surprising that there are cuts. That's par for the course, in the world of syndicated TV sit-coms nowadays.

reply

But theyre rather generous compared to other networks, hardly any episodes run shorter than 22 minutes, and many run an even 23:00. Still some episodes, including the pilot, have cuts.

"They", who? The LAFF network?

Is that who you mean?

reply

LAFF yeah, the hallmark ones clocked in at about 21 minutes each.

According to this page ...

... the episodes should be 22 to 24 minutes long, each.

reply

Yeah I'm not saying theyre uncut, just not as badly butchered as the Hallmark airings.

22-24 minutes are estimates as well, while some late 1980s shows did air episodes in the 24+ minute range, some just ran shorter. The latter seasons could be unedited in the 23 minute range as shows generally ran shorter in the early/mid-1990s.

Yes, I agree.

It's too bad that this show is not available on DVD.

That would be great.

But, it seems unlikely. Unfortunately.

Then, we could be sure that we are seeing the uncut versions of each episode.
