Kirk and the helicopter episode

Does anyone remember the episode where everyone in the group was getting tired of Kirk (played by Jere Burns) lying about his exploits? I know this probably happened more than once, but the episode I'm trying to remember is where it was the at the end of the episode where a helicopter showed up outside and Kirk opened the window and grabbed the ladder from the helicopter and took off with everyone in the group looking shocked.

I really wish they'd release "Dear John" to DVD. I like to think of it as a good listening show like The Golden Girls or Soap. I have those shows on DVD and also on MP3 where I can listen to them at work (it helps pass the time). Dear John was that type of show.

Oh well, if anyone remembers that episode, please reply and share your thoughts. Thanks.

I Think you are referring to the episode titled, Matter of Trust parts 1 and 2. The one you were referring to is the 2nd part where he goes out on a helicopter because he confessed to putting out the tabloid of Brooke Collins. That was a funny episode.

Jack returns for another year of 24 this January 2008! on FOX!

Hi, I was a member of the cast of Dear John. That episode originally had a different ending which I do not remember right now. We then filmed that episode ending right after we finished filming another episode of the show. The audience was shown some of the show footage to let them know what show this would be a part of. It was filmed on a sound stage with Kirk ( Jere Burns ) climbing out the window and up the ladder to the catwalk about 20 feet up. It was a real audience pleaser. There was a line which was prerecorded and laid over the scene while the camera is showing us looking out the window as the helicopter flies away. The line was something like;

Pilot "Where to, Mr. Morris ( Kirk Morris )?"

Kirk "Wherever's cheapest."

I might have the words wrong but they are close. The idea was to let the audience think Kirk paid someone to pick him up in a helicopter and he is no secret agent. Another interpretation is that he is a secret agent who is picked up but doesn't want the helicopter pilot to know where he is actually going.

I wish it would go to DVD also.

Would love to see this on DVD. What a wonderful show.

Every dog has his day, and Kirk the liar got to shine. It was my favorite episode, of course.

I always suspected that Kirk paid for that helicopter to pick him up in order to impress everybody, and it's probably best that those lines you mention were cut. Leaving them out preserves the mystery and ambiguity of the Kirk character.

I remember that episode being shown in the UK an the ending is just as you describe Kirk being asked by the pilot where he wanted dropped off...letting us know it was all a hoax.

I thought the US version of the show was very good...just as good as the original UK version.

I believe the name of that episode is "Second Time Around". It aired during the first season and is one of my favorite episodes. It's also the first episode of Dear John I ever saw or at least the first episode I remember seeing. Kirk hooks up with a new member from the 1 to 1 club. They go back to his mother's apartment and the woman locks Kirk up in chains. lol The woman calls John and he comes over and helps them out before his mother gets home. Later, Kirk stops by John apartment and John tells him that the rest of the group doesn't want him in the group. Kirk is hurt and asks John what he can do to get back in the group. John tells him he needs to change the way he acts. Finally, he comes back to the group and he's polite and everyone's shocked, especially Kate.

My favorite part was the ending with Kirk and the helicopter. Right before he leaves, he gives Kate a very passionate goodbye kiss. lol
