Ralph

What happened to Ralph in the last season??

reply

I was wondering the same thing myself. I am watching the episode now where they are throwing a good bye party for Kate since she is getting married, Louise said"...first Ralph, now Kate.", so I am assuming he married that girl who moved in with him. I do not remember seeing an episode on it, but I just started watching the show a couple of months ago. I looked the actor up and he sure does look different.

That's a good catch on hearing Ralph got married! Since apparently no other news or explanation in the show.

Of course, in reality we do not know why Ralph left the show, but I enjoyed his geeky character.

And apparently, "getting married" does not necessarily void you from the show either. Kate is getting married somewhat early in Season 4 yet still appears in all the episodes.

In real-life, the actor who played Ralph was fired by NBC. He was never given an explanation and neither was Judd Hirsch. They just dropped him. It's no coincidence that he was replaced with an attractive young woman (Mary Beth). Ralph was fine with it because he didn't really like being on a sitcom anyway. He much prefers the theater and dramas.

MrBlond,,,thanks for the information that Ralph got fired from the show, bummer.

But just wanted to clarify that the attractive Mary Beth character did not replace his character. Mary Beth actually joined the cast way back in Season 2, while Ralph was not let go until Season 4.

I think MrBlondNYC meant Annie, not Mary Beth. 😃

Yes, thats possible, although she was only in 11 episodes. It seems they cobbled together a few minor characters for that last season.

For example, I was watching a Season 4 show last night and noticed they had a "William O'Leary" starring in the opening credits along with the other cast members. I think he was Ben, Louise's younger boyfriend.

I was thinking the same thing, I liked Ralph, I thought he was hilarious. I miss him on the later episodes.
