The only bad thing about China Beach...

Every time there is a character I like they either leave or die. Can a guy with red hair stay alive... There was one due to go home that died and then Jeff Hyers. I liked Cherry, Laurette, and Wayloo Marie too.

wayloo NEVER should've left the series. She was way too hot to be taken from the viewer. The actress that played cherry retired from acting.

I really liked Jeff, but I have a thing for redheads. One of the things I really like about the show is that with few expections, it doesn't have opening credits immunity (if a character is in the opening credits, they probably are not getting killed off). The fact that they made the viewer believe that almost any character could be killed more or less on camera was a strength of the show.

Ned Vaughn played both of those parts, the soldier Dewey in the first episode after the pilot, "Home", as well as Jeff Hyers in the later episodes. I loved Hyers and his interactions with McMurphy.

That's 'Nam. You're in country for a year then rotate back to the states....or you get killed. That some of the characters were on the show for all 4 years is actually not realistic, very few servicemen spent 4 years there.

And before the usual "I know better" posters respond I'm aware you had people do more than one tour of 'Nam that may have, but not likely added up to 4 years but that would be very, very rare.
