Nan Woods

I never have understood why this actress never got more credit for her portrayal of doomed donut dolly Cherry White. The episode where her character died was truly shocking.

I definitely agree with you! I wonder whatever became of Nan Woods. I surely thought she would have gone on to bigger and better things. I loved her sensitive and naive portrayal of Cherry.

I hardly ever caught this show, and I am wondering what a "donut dolly" is?

El Paso, Texas...ever heard of it?

"Donut Dollies" were Red Cross workers (ladies), who gave aid and comfort to the nurses, patients, and gi staff at various locations. They did a lot of work, but got very little, if any, credit for what they did. At the 71st Evac, they helped me get glue and paint for my model airplanes and even scrounged up a 5-string banjo for me. They had books, etc. and always a friendly smile and a glass of Kool-Aid for visitors.

God bless the Donut Dollies...you made a difference.

Is there a photo of her available from China Beach days? I saw a photo posted on a war vet site of a woman wearing a bra made from Crown Royal sacks that looks like Nan. That's why I ask.

She was fantastic; I never understood why she wasn't nominated for an Emmy for her work. Tough competition from Delany and Helgenberger, of course, but she more than held her own. Her metamorphosis from season 1 to season 2 was phenomenal.

I assume her exit from the series was planned. She had less and less to do in the 2nd series and the cast was already built up to replace her. As there are no further credits and I've read elsewhere that she got married and raised a family I guess it was her choice. Which is fair enough but I did find her very watchable.
