Anyone willing to explain the film to me please ..?

Normally I can follow a film well enough and read its visual language such that I am left with some meaning of it. I was stumped by Yeelen and I suspect that watching without subtitles may have not helped either ..! The user reviews seems almost as esoteric to me as the film. If any kind soul has the patience to spin me a narrative about the film, going beyond the struggle of father and son, then I'd be most grateful.
