The new R-4 DVD (21st anniversary special edition)

I bought this yesterday and have watched it.

Very good picture, minor print damage - the odd fleck, really. Four audio tracks: a new 5.1 remix (mildly immersive), the original 2.0, an English descriptive track and a commentary track from John Duigan.

The major extra is a conversation that Duigan has with Ben Mendelsohn, Loene Carmen and Noah Taylor. Taylor is shot separately from the other two as he lives in England. No subtitles here.

There's also a trailer and an optional introduction from producer George Miller.

Very much worth getting if only to see Duigan promise Carmen that he's planning a third outing with Danny Embling. I'd like to see that.

Sounds great! :D

As for the 'major extra', when does the conversation take place?

And I don't quite undertsand the last bit; so is Duigan planning to complete the Danny Embling triology or something? That'd be awesome.

reply

The conversation takes place in present day. Judging from how Mendelsohn looks I'd say he took time off from filming Australia to do it.

Yeah the third film would be great but I'd say it'd take place many years later from the other two, given how Noah looks these days...

reply

Interesting. That's nice of Mendelsohn if he did.

And plus I would have never expected the third film to ever come out. What a pleasant hope Duigan has given us! :] If it does (and starrs Noah) then yeh, it'd probably be a setting of 10 or 20 years later; but Noah tends to have this age-morphing ability anyway...

I also bought this last week .. after waiting for a lifetime for it to be released on DVD .. I am glad i never paid the ridiculous prices being asked on Amazon for apparently some very average quality ... As noted above the quality is excellent with only the odd fleck ...

All is now right with the world ...

Can someone explain the conflicting information I'm getting. Amazon.com lists the release date as December 9, 2008, while also stating that it's 'been discontinued by the manufacturer.' Elsewhere, the release date is listed as 28/1/2009 (http://www.dvdorchard.com.au/ProductS1.asp?CS=1&PND=152400&NoC ache=0.5378687). I'm based in the UK, so can someone advise me as to the best way of getting hold of a copy. Thanks.

Lucky me: I found a torrent file of the anniversary edition, complete with extras.

Rather than ripping off the makers (well and producers, and distributors), why not buy it from and Aussie store such as www.devoteddvd.com.au, where I pre-ordered my copy.

Finally watched it a couple of weeks ago, and it's as great as I remembered it. Although Noah Taylor really hasn't aged well in the special features, Ben Mendelson looks a lot better than in the Denim suit in which I last saw him.
