Do you think this movie should have been more scary, gory, violent, disturbing etc?

Hi, to those of you who have seen it, and I have as well, do you think this movie should have in any way been more disturbing, violent, gory etc, even if just a little bit, given its supernatural horror genre and, here in UK at least, and on DVD, it having an "18" certificate and having a note beside it saying "This film will have an adult theme. It may have some strong scenes of sex, or violence or bad language".

Granted yes it did have quite a bit of strong language, and adult themes and also strong sexual references. And it did have SOME violence and horror mostly towards the end.

But I was also especially surprised that for an adult horror movie, the violent content, though fairly strong in small parts, was rather tame overall. I mean, it did have that vomiting death of a lady scene, a little bit of horror involving fruits rotting and snakes and some blood during witch craft and scenes of them confronting Jack Nicholson's Devil character via witchcraft, although some of those aspects like him becoming enormous and then him becoming babyish and then disappearing can almost be as safe as anything we see in Disney animation.

But I am guessing George Miller and co. probably didn't mean to make it an outright gorefest or a totally over the top scarefest and whatnot and it was meant to be a sort of more 'restrained' type of suspenseful horror and fantasy and black comedy with what being suggested is maybe perhaps more terrifying in a way than what is shown.

But it was still enough to grant it an "18" certificate and the nearby warning label by the BBFC, although with certain releases, that is like a standard scheme and system, really.

No, not at all. It's a supernatural comedy so there was no need for gore and violence.

I don't know where you got the idea it was an "adult horror movie", or that it was even trying to be.

Should have been sexier. It's already R-rated. Where are the tits? If I have to look at Jack Nicholson shirtless with his big belly I should at least get one topless scene from Susan Sarandon.
