"I taught it to them"

Daryl says this in the church scene near the end, as he tells the town people not to worry, indicating they women were using a spell he had taught them.

How and when? Is there a scene i missed in the movie? All i recall was awe at levitation and weird happenings, never Daryl showing the girls how to do spells, or any real indication he knew or cared about there abilities. Then suddenly they know exactly what book and what to do.

Though of course, i assume it's probably detailed in the book?
