Jane's transformation too drastic too quickly.

I like the idea of one womans change from geek to chic. But would have made it more believable if her transformation was a bit more gradual. Say in the scene after Devil seduces her - maybe no glasses, then no glasses and hair out; then no glasses, hair out and slut clothes etc. . .Just found it hard to believe someone as repressed as Jane would change so suddenly overnight, i mean where would she have gotten her slutty clothes anyway?

I think Darryl just brought out her inner free spirit. She probably just got herself in a bit of a rut over the years. Your impression seems to be a lot like the way the women in the supermarket treated her. A lot of her fashion choices were clearly signs of her sexual and inner confidence.

That never crossed my mind.

But then again, I never during the many times I watched this movie I thought about how possible it is to have the devil come to your town.

It seemed to me that she had been repressing things for so long while in her unhappy marriage, that when Daryl showed up it all just exploded out. So, I thought that the instantaneous change seemed accurate.

You'd be surprised at how many repressed people have had a past, i.e. clothes, that are hidden deep in their closet. She probably had the clothes and finally decided to bring them out.

It's not too far off, good sex with a man who makes you feel confident is quite liberating and can change a person seemingly "overnight".

I masturbate a lot

Bear in mind that this is a supernatural comedy. I would think that Jane changed so quickly was what made it so funny.

Yes, I agree with the above. I did not get the impression Jane was necessarily having a drastic make-over, but more (like a lot of women who get to 40 ish) suddenly find themselves in a situation where it's easier to wear the same types of clothes, never go out (as the women state they don't in the film), so have no cause to dress up. Then the hair stops being styled, and it's pulled back into a ponytail, the reading classes stay on (as it's easier than continually looking for them) and there is no point wearing daily make-up ect. Jane had not let herself go, but she had slowly become too sensible. Suddenly Darryl reminds her who she actually is (via the music/seduction scene). In effect, all the character has done is make an appointment at a hair salon and ask them to perm and colour her hair a brighter red. She then stops wearing a bra and starts wearing more casual or dressy outfits - which she probably always had in her wardrobe. Her biggest changes comes in the confidence she suddenly finds again. She stops worrying what people think about her.

It's mostly the hair. And her hair length and color keeps changing. At first it's a dark red in a braid that goes halfway down her back. Then it's long red and curly. The scene in the supermarket it's just past her shoulders, frizzy and orange. The the next scene she is in it's longer and darker. But the friszzy orange hair makes her look cheap

I agree with you. The change was very sudden.
