DVD?

Does anyone know anything about about possible DVD release for this version of Wind in the Willows? I am perpetually frustrated that more than one site has confused this animated Rankin and Bass version with the stop-motion Cosgrove and Hall version (which I like, but I want my R and B!)

reply

I once emailed the Rankin/Bass people and apparently the rights are owned by Warner Bros. It could get released if a petition were started, but I'm not aware of one.

I plan on doing a High-Quality transfer to DVD from VHS for my own personal collection, but I would LOVE a real copy on DVD.

How do we start a petition? Any ideas?

Here is a site: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/?ltl=1151606369

I don't know what the best one is. I'll do a little research and see if there is a better petition.

I believe Warner Brothers has the rights, so at least we have a TARGET for the petition.

they've had lots of luck with Rankin/Bass "Hobbit" and "Last Unicorn" which are now available on very nice quality DVDs after years of enduring video cheapie purgatory.

This version of "Wind in the Willows" ranks among their best work... funny and whimsical but also not shying away from the lyrical melancholy which most other adaptations (especially the insipid Disney version) neglected.

Fantastic music, too, especially the haunting title track. And stellar voice work from a couple well known actors. This one deserves to be remembered and enjoyed as a classic. DVD can't arrive soon enough.
