Why did Madonna make this film??

She was at the top of her game, musically. Why did she need to make air~brained comedies like this?!

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

I liked it!

She was trying to become a movie star. However, her special magic does not translate to the screen when acting.

She had a flat quality as an actress.

Also, she has always had kind of a mean face so trying to be the star was a bad choice.

That and many people thought she was extremely trashy, which she was.

reply

Because anyone who was in pop music was doing movies at the time (Sting, Prince, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Grace Jones, etc.).

If you’re at the top of your game in anything, and someone is willing to throw you millions to do a side job (like acting), why wouldn’t you? Even if the movie bombs, you still got paid and get to go right back to music.

That also explains other musicians, athletes (see Michael Jordan), and non-actors doing movies.

It seemed to work both ways in that era, too, as I can think of several popular actors who recorded musical albums: Rick Springfield, Bruce Willis, Eddie Murphy, etc.

Good point. About Rick Springfield, he was a musician before he was an actor. He was putting out albums as far back as 1973. His first acting gig was a cartoon playing pop star Rick Springfield

I thought she was good in this movie. She had the perfect look and personality for the character she was portraying in it. Tbh if comic book movies were a thing back then I would have liked to seen her play Harley Quinn.
