something more to this one

Really interesting film, have watched it three times, it's like the director was going for a bunch of different things and none of them add up, but it ends up becoming something else entirely. Really interesting and actually surprised me in many places... very daring film.

I agree. There's something about it that draws me in. Keith is awesome and so is his dialogue. The scene that has him trying to explain what he's up to to Cathy Moriarty gives me the chills. My only quibble: I don't like the actor who played the ex-boyfriend/friend. Cool, personal-apocalypse ending, too.

This is a strange one! Didn't quite connect with it on the first viewing experience in a cinema. Found it pretentious and unappealing and didn't like Cathy Moritary or her annoying boyfriend Mike in it—I did find David Keith mesmerising. The film haunted me though and after subsequent viewings on video started to warm to it......I now think Moriarty is stunning and watch it for her as much as Keith. According to the trivia, the director wouldn't allow his actors to ad lib the dialouge, so she had given a controlled performance without being allowed to reign loose. An acting skill she no doubt learned from her experince with DeNiro on 'Raging Bull'.

The film features some fantastic editing, camera work and sound and it sometimes appears that we are seeing more than we actually are especially during the murder sequences. The undercurrent of violence that permeates this film gives it a disturbing edge that is hard to shake off. The director's detached style and skill at handling the violence in the film along with Keith's nutty, explosive performance gives it an unnerving almost brilliant quality. It's an atmospheric unusual arty thriller to come out of America and the touches of 'Italian Giallo' would have alienated many mainstream viewers of the time.

Yeah, I noticed this too. It was strange how it was paced, like the first part is like 80s slasher film (the music; the murder) but then there is a low bodycount. At first i thought it was like a whodunnit, but the killer is obvious. I won't say well made because the editing was a tad iffy. The pacing was weird it was like going in and out. I wouldn't consider this a horror film, though it seems it might have been intended to be at some point in the production. I loved it. As I watched it I thought I wouldn't end up liking it, but the last half was intense. Cathy Moriarty was perfect. David Keith was perfect.

I fully agree with the above posts. I've always had a liking for this weird, hard-to-categorize little B movie... it's like part 80s slasher film, part European arthouse film, part domestic melodrama, yet somehow it really works. Cathy Moriarty is one of my favorite actresses and David Keith makes a very charming, charismatic psycho (and he's so damn hot, lol). Glad to see it getting some appreciation here.
