Alan was a little bitch

and I get that he is scared and all that. when I was little I was scared of everything to. But it's his constant arguing about everything that drove me nuts. No wonder Bacon lost his cool. Really the big problem was having two type A personalities out in the wilderness like that.

Alan was a total pu55y. I don't understand why everyone turned on Vic when Alan came back from the mountain. It wasn't any different when he left Alan before. Vic left Alan at the bridge because he kept stalling. If he would have just cleaned the damn fish while they were packing he wouldn't have been left out on the island. He chose to be a baby and stay out there all night. Finally if he would have stopped screaming like a baby he would have swung to the other side without some big production, again he wouldn't have been left out there.

I always laugh at the end because Alan is still the same little a-hole, and the fact that Chris almost succeeded in killing Vic was completely forgotten because YAHOO, THE CHOPPER IS HERE!

He was a little pussy but I disagree on a few things. I thought Vic was wrong about the fish thing, Alan came up with a working solution that would have allowed him to survive, he used his brain and engineered something out of nothing. I can understand staying on the island and refusing to clean the fish out of principle. I have no problem with him leaving the kid at the bridge because he would not just grow some balls and cross it. The rock swing, if Alan had stopped whimpering for a minute and at least tried then that would have gone much smoother. Alan proved that by finally stopping his crying and getting himself out of that mess. I understand Vic's logic for leaving him because as he said "some day I won't be there to get him out of a mess" and that's true. Eventually though he would have had to go back and got him, you can't let him hang there until he died. Parents might have a problem if you come back without their kid and tell them "he's hanging off a rock somewhere up in the mountains"

Agreed, the fish scenes displayed Vic's stubbornness. Alan should have been commended for his innovation, as implausible as his fish trap was.

As for the rock climbing incident, I take Vic's side.

I did a lot of Outward Bound expeditions as a kid in the 80s. I was a leader in the 90s. I have been on both sides of the Alan/Vic thing. The reason they go on these trips is to instill confidence and a sense of accomplishment in the kids. When kids 'wuss out', its the leaders job to light a fire under them. That's all Vic was doing.

When Alan was 'stranded' hanging, he was in no danger. Vic merely wanted him to try to do it himself.

Anyhow, its an interesting film. The characters have rough edges, they have virtues and weaknesses. Vic is seen as the bad guy, but the irony was that he did instill confidence in Alan when all was said and done. So, he did his job.

I kind of liked when Vic walked out of his tent during the storm and looked over at the island, you could tell he was thinking to himself "what a stubborn little *beep*

Vic should have slapped Alan in the mouth long before swinging on the cliff. Constantly whining and wanting to go home. You're in the middle of the woods, you're not at a playground or grocery store where you just go to the parking lot, hop in the car and go home. Vic was trying to help Alan become a man and not be so reliant on technology yet Alan was always clinging to the radio and technology.

He does get a little hard on Alan when he catches the fish but I don't think he was wrong with the gutting part. That's great you caught all of those fish but you gotta gut them to eat them so he needs to learn that.

Maybe it was a little rough to not check on Alan at all after a little while on the cliff but I get the whole walking away point he was making. Maybe after a few mins you come back to at least check on him, offer some more words of encouragement and then leave again.

Yes I remember seeing this movie not too long ago. Alan was very unlikeable and a smug little rich boy. I think everybody lost their cool with Alan after a while.
