Harry Carey Jr.'s Accent

That had to be one of the worst accents I've ever heard. Well, that my be an exaggeration, but it was horrible.

I like Harry Carey Jr., but hearing that horrendous accent pulled me right out of the movie. Worse, half the time he kept slipping back to his normal accent, which made him sound all the more ridiculous. He was never the best actor, and without his father, and John Wayne, he probably wouldn't have a career, but even he can do better.

It sounded like a horribly mutilated Irish accent combined with a horribly mutilated Mayor Quimby impression. No one else tried that hard at an accent and the movie was fine. Why did he feel the need to try it, and why did the director, and other actors let him go on with it?

It's bad enough that Hollywood thinks a Maine/New England accent is simply an over exaggerated JFK parody, but HCJr took it to a level all his own.
