After the initial Bluestar meeting in Bud's apartment, Bud and Carl are arguing outside and Bud says, "Your men! Your men! Why is it you've never been there for me?"
Seems like Carl was a pretty good father for the little we see of their relationship.
It seems that Carl put his career ahead of his family, and that was a sore spot for Bud. And then he hears Carl say it again, when he really needs his dad to just trust him. But Carl was right and bud was a fool at that point. Bud realizes that he can pay his father back for the betrayal gekko pulled off by saving the airline and saving the mens'jobs. Gekko was right that bud had a golden parachute and could have bailed out once the deal was done w millions. Bud should have went along...he'd be rich ,his dad rich and retired, and the men could find other jobs, sorry bout their bad luck lol
shareHe said that because he was behaving like a petulant little boy who wasn't getting his way. There was little if any truth to that statement. He was sore because his father wasn't giving him what he wanted when he wanted it. Carl had very good reason to withhold his support as was proven shortly after that scene.
