Why was the first part removed?

I remember when I saw this in the theatres, and we got to see the short story of Quarks childhood before the real story started. Why was this part cut from the DVD?

I wonder if this was ever part of the film? I read that there were six short films created about Quark. There were more planned, but when the film did not recoup its production costs and its distributor went bankrupt - thus, the remaining short films could not be produced.

Perhaps the backstory you are thinking of was a short film shown preceding the feature film. So it wasn't that anything was 'cut' from the DVD - it's actually that none of the 6 Quark shorts have ever been released again.

At least I can say 100% for sure that there a short story regarding Qurk's background in the theatrical release that was not on the DVD. We saw Quark grow real fast when riding a dog, how he ate the spoon as well when his father was feeding him as a baby, how he returned to his mother with flowers after they sent him away (they either kicked him or used a catapult or something), how a wheel made up of many hands smacked the hands of some guy who tried to steal food, how a booger was used as spice when making food and how Quark was inside the stew or whatever it was.
And I find it a little weird that they don't add the Quark material on the DVD.

As to why they did not add Quark on the DVD:

Quark belongs to different franchise. He became quite the mascot in Denmark, and was separated from the main Valhalla franchise with a contract that none of the Valhalla characters could appear in the Quark comics and films etc.

Quark's parents are never mentioned at all in neither this movie nor in the comic books.
So, is there an explanation to why isn't he living with them?
