The music..

I just like popping in here from time to time to remark on how sad and spectacularly anal and banal you have to be to be so uptight about the beautiful score for this film.

See you in hell.

what a fucking pointless post you attention seeking whore

reply

Got your ire up didn't it? Not so pointless then, is it?

reply

no not at all , just makes you look stupid

reply

Yeah. It's "stupid" that you've felt compelled to give this thread attention it supposedly doesn't deserve.

What's stupid are the several threads on here bleating about there nit being a trite conventional score that fits narrow preconceptions.

reply

Well playedđź‘Ť

Solid score... very cinematic

reply

Oh it is a good score.

Okay, I hadn't seen this movie for 15-20 years, and a commercial came on with the tense score from "Untouchables" playing in the background. Even though I hadn't seen the film in ages and hadn't particularly liked it when I did and had heard several thousand other films scores during the interim, I immediately thought "Hey, that's the music from 'The Untouchables'! Great music.". NOw that's the sign of a good, memorable score.

reply

The music is even better than the film IMO.

reply

Considering what they choose to do with "Nitti" that goes without saying.

reply

Oh come on, the score deserves more praise than THAT...

reply

Ennio Moricone! One of the best film composers ever.

reply

Yes, he is, but the soundtrack sounds like it came from a Saturday morning kids’ cartoon. The movie is in my library, and I just rewatched it. I don’t like DePalma as a director. I find him heavy-handed and on
the desperate side, e. g., I hate the scene in the train station which the mother (who stinks at planning ahead) is trying to drag a baby carriage AND a large suitcase up impossible stairs and Ness is “torn” between helping her and nabbing his prey, BUT I enjoy this movie EXCEPT for the unmelodious and tinny-sounding soundtrack. Who the hell approved this film score? De Palma has opera allusions all over the film, but he delivers a score that is Muzak.

reply

..is incredible.
