Pretty Bad

It had some good scenes but way too may stupid flourishes by the director, basically De Palma screaming "Look at my directing!!! Did you see my tribute to Sergei Eisenstein, people?????"

too may stupid flourishes

So, some stupid flourishes would be acceptable? What are you even talking about? I'm no DePalma fan, his filmmaking style leaves me a bit cold. However, "The Untouchables" is a fantastic tribute to the pulpy stories of gangland Chicago. It's no biopic or even remotely historically accurate, but it is entertaining and very well polished.

This is one of the most perfectly noir-styles of gangland cinema ever made. I'm speechless beyond that at your criticism.

reply

That would be your opinion.

I find it overly hammy at almost every turn, and DeNiro is just awful.

This movie is a 1930s-40s noir homage with modern day violence. Ennio morricone's score is just magnificent. Builds tension and is overall beautiful

This movie have nothing to do with Noir, you gonna have to do some homework about film noir, read Schrader's article or something

That potemkin homage scene at the union station is a joke. Did Garcias shot go right through the bookie before it hit the bad guy in the head or what? Garcia was lying on the floor several steps below the bad guy with the bookie standing in his line of sight. Elliot Ness must be an imbecile not taking that shot himself standing right in front of the bad guy not even half the distance Garcia had.

First off *beep* schrader. Overrated *beep* director.

reply

first off. I am aware that Schrader is a mediocre director. I haven't said squat about Paul Schrader as a director, that is totally irrelevant, I told you to at least read this famous article before labelling The Untouchables as "noir".

De Palma is awesome and it had some damn great scenes.

I guess this film really wouldnt be rated too high among post-80/90/00 viewers overly used to the treats of Marvel or Dc superhero movies these days.
