There's a scene where Godo points a rifle at Catherine(I wonder what the names were in the original Japanese version?). Everything in the frame fades to black, yet the rifle is still visible. I wonder if this was an homage to Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia?

Sandy Frank got the rights to the television series and compressed all 26 episodes into one television movie the length of less than four episodes of the show. Why he did this instead of releasing an English dub of the series(or a slightly truncated version of the series) to local UHF stations for cheap, I don't know. I mean, back in the 1980's local UHF stations were desperate for new, different, and unique programming to air on their meager budget. It would be a natural fit for them to buy this as a one season series and not a movie.
