'Get out of my way, you black bastard!'

LOL! Where the hell did that even come from? And Crystal's reaction to it...genius. Shame they cut it out of the TV Land version; for me, it's the single funniest moment in a very funny flick.

It was great. Everything she said was hilarious, kept me repeating it.
He's all.. What?

reply

LOL! I'm black and I always thought that was hilarious. It just shows mama is not completely all there.

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

Buahaha, that was da.mn funny. She probably thought
his hair was an afro because of the way it is and
she's old school and probably has a different way
of thinking than his generation so he couldn't get
why she would think that.

Also, what makes that even funnier is that Owen tells
Mama that he is their cousin Patty coming to stay for
a while and she says "You don't have a cousin Patty"
instead of saying "But that guy's black!" so she could
have believed they had a black cousin but she only
didn't buy it because there is no Patty.

It's so funny. I can't imagine why this was cut from the TV LAND airing, for it is not offensive. It just hoes to show that Mamma was old school and rather senile. This is an example of the need to be PC when it really isn't called for. What next, should they edit Blazing Saddles?

OK, so what's the speed of dark?

Momma was insane but that's what made the movie so funny and entertaining. If she had been sane and normal and sweet as pie, the movie probably would have been boring and routine. Momma always kind of reminded me of my momma (not in looks but in personality). Yikes!

I thought she called Billy Crystal a black bastard because he was dressed in black.

If you watch closely Ramsey calls Crystal a "black bastard" right after glancing at his sweater.

I always got the sense that scene was ad-libbed - Ramsey was the ultimate pro, so Devito probably just let the camera run while she said whatever came to her mind.

Watched this again last night and ... I ALWAYS forget how funny this line is. I end up spitting my drink at the TV. Bah ha haaaaa.

reply

Love that line and I'm black/Indian! And yes she called him black because of his hair and coloring.

Some black people refer to Jews pejoratively as "white [N-word]s"; that might have something to do with it.
