How did Buddy Revell NOT get suspended.

I know it's just a movie but come on let's be real. Buddy Revell knock out Craig Mattey in the Library, knocks every book down. Knock's out Mr. O'Rourke, Knock's out school security guard known as "the Duker. Than he come's to school the next day like nothing happen. How does Buddy Revell not get suspended from school.

reply

Don't think anyone told the teachers bout knocking out Craig.

Marty. Y'know what we got here? MotherF&%kin' Charlie Bronson. Mr. Majestyk

reply

O really. So there's no teachers in there. Come on every book was on the floor.

reply

How did he not get suspended?????

More like how did he not go to jail?

reply

Guess none of u noticed Buddy whispering 'ssssshhhhh' to the librarian.

reply

I thought that was a nerdy student doing some work on his lunch hour-not a librarian.

reply

"I know it's just a movie"

There, you just answered your own question.

I'm happiest...in the saddle.

reply

I thought he got kicked out of that school too.

reply

Basically the fight with Jerry should have never happened. Buddy would have been suspended/sent home right after knocking out Craig. I'm sure Craig needed medical attention and/or needed to leave school. Either way, Buddy is gone just like they had hoped with the knife plot.

reply

With any movie you can find holes, but this was the one logic leap that bugged me too. No matter how intimidating Buddy was, it's hard to believe he destroyed the library and broke another kids nose/finger without the principal finding out.

reply

One of the movie's themes is that schools don't deal properly with habitual troublemakers, but the moment a decent kid like Jerry steps a bit out of line, the "system" comes down hard on them.

...and Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lotta ice, whenever he's away

reply

Craig probably pretended he'd had an accident. It would have looked bad on every level, plus there's a Code of Honor amongst tough guys, so he didn't rat Buddy out.

Library intern/student is too terrorized to tell authorities.

Leaving only Jerry and Vincent as the remaining witnesses.

And we all know, Buddy told them, "Sshhhhhhh…" so… ;)

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

reply

Yup, biggest plothole in the movie. That why I gave it a 6 instead of 7

reply

Because....sh!t happens. He knocked out Craig, but it was self defense. Craig 'attacked' him when he poked him in the chest. Buddy obviously felt that his life was in danger and responded.

The Duker charged towards him, and he reacted. Again, self defense.

The principal tried to grab him. Again, self defense.

That kamikaze friend, jumping out of nowhere to stall/save Jerry, who got kneed in the sack, well, he 'attacked' Buddy first.

Notice a theme, here.

Buddy is really the victim in this movie. He was the new kid, just trying to blend in, and here are all these people, attacking him. What a shame.

Ordinarily, somebody would have been suspended and/or arrested with all of those things. But this movie, while it may have had suspenseful undertones, in the grand scheme of things, it was just kind of goofy and it was meant to be that way (not really all that believable), and I'm pretty sure the plot holes were deliberate. I would definitely place it in the category of dark comedy. If that explanation doesn't work for you, you'll have to go with the "it's just a movie" one.

As a side note, Craig's fighting style really sucked. Poking Buddy in the chest was bad strategy and he clearly underestimated the guy (yes, I'm stating the obvious). Should have just knocked him out immediately and enjoyed his $450.

reply

Craig was trying to warn him to leave Jerry alone. He had no idea that touching Buddy like that was dangerous. If he had just raised his finger at him, maybe Buddy would've done nothing. It was the touching that annoyed Buddy. Of course, the whole gag is that anytime someone touches him, he knocks them out. Stupid.

reply

Who's going to enforce the suspension? Everyone who came in contact with the guy got knocked the f out. The teachers in the library probably hid until the danger passed.

reply

I know right. In this day and age, he would have been hauled off by the police.
