Buddy really won the fight

I know ITS JUST A MOVIE... now then lets look at it. Jerry had help from friends, faculty and family. People were coming at Buddy from all directions and he knocked all comers out instantly but laid off destroying Jerry. Buddy could've finished him at any time and chose not to. Once Jerry hit Buddy with the brass knuckles you can see buddy look at him as if to say "finally I can get beyond this reputation". After falling Buddy immediately gets up and leaves the scene so you know he wasn't knocked out and the fight wouldn't have ended had Buddy not wanted it to. Also when Buddy returns the money he smirks slightly at Jerry. I think Buddy just wanted to be left alone and he saw his chance.

The smirk sez it all

Jerry had friends, that was his strength. He had people that would risk being badly hurt for his sake.

reply

Buddy had help from the fact that he was 3 times his size and experienced at fighting.

reply

And Buddy did not fight fair either. Remember he kicked that guy in the jewels. That is a pu$$y move.

reply

Anything goes in the fight. Nobody set rules. However when buddy introduced the brass knuckles it was all fair game. Buddy lost.

reply

Yes, Buddy seemed to be a good sport about things.

Also, I think Buddy knew that if he beat Jerry (which he could've easily done) after knocking out everyone (including the dukester) then his rep would've only grown. Which I think he hated in the first place. Remember at the beginning he told Jerry he didn't like anyone knowing about him.

Absolutely agree with the op. Buddy threw the fight to get rid of the badass/bully reputation. He lost the fight intentionally.
Glad that someone else saw it.

Too much, too soon, too long, too strong, too many,
to fix.

Let's not forget, Buddy took down 3 other guys that day. 2 were as big and formidable as him. He had a rough day, too.
